REAGAN-LIKE LANDSLIDE EYED (For Kerry)
But there's another possibility, one only now being floated by a few political operatives: 2004 could be a decisive victory for Kerry. The reason to think so is historical. Elections that feature a sitting president tend to be referendums on the incumbent – and in recent elections, the incumbent has either won or lost by large electoral margins. If you look at key indicators beyond the neck-and-neck support for the two candidates in the polls – such as high turnout in the early Democratic primaries and the likelihood of a high turnout in November – it seems improbable that Bush will win big. More likely, it's going to be Kerry in a rout.

THE ROAD TO A JOHN KERRY LANDLSIDE CONTINUES

A Few Days Ago People Were Trying To Make His Previous Stance Against Human Rights Abuses During Vietnam War A Negative, Now That Stance Makes Him The Undeniable Choice The Nation Needs

Only A Man The World Knows Would Stand Up To Abuses Can Regain Control Of The Iraq Situation, And The World Knows Only Kerry Has That Record

http://www.moderateindependent.com/v2i4elections.htm

...and a follow-up to THAT one:

Generations X and Y never knew the Fonz, and they didn’t grow up with Clint Eastwood. They are used to, especially with regard to politicians and talk show hosts, thinking those who babble the loudest and nastiest to be the tough guy. There is about to be a huge shift in opinion among the American people, and it has already begun. Bush will go down, and these talk radio hosts will lose their audiences in droves as people come to see them as the obnoxious, babbling ratings hounds that they are.

So to sum up clearly, Bush’s numbers are down not because of this scandal or that insurgent bombing but because President Bush’s horrible policies are playing out as expected and John Kerry is stealth-charming the nation into a frenzy that will win him the election by a landslide not seen since the Reagan days.

4. I like the logic that Kerry is the proven humanitarian
He has the record. We know he can deliver.

3. I have a very hard time believing Bush will leave power...

...without a HUGE fight. Even if Kerry wins by a huge margin, I expect, at the very least, a torrent of lawsuits filed by the repigs in every state that Bush loses. At the very most, I expect Bush to declare martial law either right before the election, or right before Kerry's inaugural.

There's no way Bush and his cabal will go quietly into the night...

8. the only comfort i take
from this scenario of martial law declaration, and it has been worrying me for a while, is that bush's inner circle is shrinking daily. why hitch your wagon to a proven loser?

and somehow i believe that like gollum in "lord of the rings", Colin Powell will have an important role in the arrest of bush if he declares martial law..

10. Mr Powell will first have to negogiate his own
Immunity from prosecution.Hard to arrest a sitting president from a jail cell in the Hague.

5. This story ran a couple of months ago, I think.
It's a tantalizing possibility, but I think it's going to be close, rather than a landslide.

7. I don't know...
Even though polls in Tennessee show this to be a very close race, I have to say that, other than a very few ideologues, who actually believe the Iraqi War is the war on "terra," I have seen very few people who really like Bush.
My area is beyond conservative - in fact, Gov. Phil Bredesen is the only Democrat to ever carry my county - and I see more and more and more Kerry and/or anti-Bush stickers and yard signs every day.
Granted, the people here are more traditionally conservative - low deficits, balanced budgets, low taxes - and not neo-conservative, religious right wingnuts.
However, the biggest issues here are the biggest issues everywhere - the economy and the war in Iraq - and, on both those fronts, people are losing. They're losing their jobs, when they do find jobs, the jobs are low-paying and, most importantly, this state has lost 12 soldiers in Iraq and who knows how many have been maimed for life.
I think people, if they think about it, would rather give up the extra $400 they get for having a kid if it means they would earn several thousand dollars more a year and they CERTAINLY wouldn't trade that $400 for the life of their child, even if they DO think Kerry would get rid of it (which he won't unless you earn more than $200,000 a year).
I still think it will be close in this state, but, if it's close in MY area, then it may very well be a landslide, nationally.

6. Landslide may be too strong a term,
but I don't think it will be a nailbiter.

9. This is Kerry's to lose
He can keep quiet as Bush self-destructs but has to watch out when the bastards get desperate. A wounded animal is dangerous and neo-cons are extremely dangerous. I expect all kinds of flagrant election fraud and then a lame-duck Bush will wreak unholy horrors upon this land and pardon his whole administration including himself. fuckers!
