Wouldn't it be great!
Watched Inside Politics on CNN this am when the two reporters were on. (One from New York Post and the other from The Chicago Tribune .) One mentioned that Kerry was "behind schedule" on naming a VP choice. It made me stop and think for a minute.

What if????

What if Kerry let the convention choose the VP candidate?

Think about this....the convention is coming soon and it will have all the drama of watching paint dry. UNLESS there is some kind of drama created. Wouldn't it be great if all the favorites were nominated and there was a dramatic, classic floor battle to nominate the VP? Viewership would be excellent as the drama unfolded. The speeches would be dynamite....and Bush-bashing would be supreme!

At the end a show/pledge of unity around the eventual nominee (Kerry and his "picked by the people" running mate) would be the best political theatre around and would be highly preferable to the boring coronation of GWB at the Repub convention.

I'd love to see it.

What's your opinion.

1. Could be interesting
Would get the media coverage, yes, but the risk is that the process would degenerate into a bar room brawl. Democrats have a history of fractious conventions: 1860, 1924 (103 ballots to choose a nominee), 1948 (the Dixiecrat walkout), 1960-68 (the MFDP credentials fights), 1968 (need I say more), 1972 (poor planning left McGovern making his speech at 3AM). I just don't trust our side to have an orderly debate about something like that.

2. That's a risk, of course
but I can't see Dems voting for Bush, not voting, or even voting for Nadar because the convention chose the candidate.

Your point is well-taken though

5. WhoreMedia: Kerry can't make up his own mind...
I think the idea is great - but risky. Though the delegates would almost certainly pick Edwards.

6. Republicans will present it as
Kerry's inability to make a decision, relating it to the flip-flop theme. But I do think it would be exciting!

7. I seem to recall many times that the VP
was not chosen until at or following the convention. In fact many times that the presidential candidate was chosen at the convention.
