Bush twins could give speeches, first lady says
By Judy Keen and Richard Benedetto, USA TODAY

FROM: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-06-08-bush-twins_x.htm
SEA ISLAND, Ga. — The Bush twins, who have tried to stay out of view for most of their father's political career, may give campaign speeches this year, Laura Bush said Tuesday.

In an interview in the library of a borrowed house on the island where leaders of the world's industrial nations are meeting, Bush said Barbara and Jenna, 22, will work at the Arlington, Va., campaign headquarters when they return soon from a European vacation. They graduated from college this spring.

"They'll go work at the headquarters and then, if they feel confident enough, they may go out on the campaign trail a little bit," she said. Their focus will be young voters.

"Jenna said, 'Dad, I don't want to say when I'm 50 years old that I never worked on a single one of your campaigns,' " the first lady said.

She meets today with the spouses of other leaders at the summit and women from the governments of Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush hopes the wives will encourage universities in their nations to emulate U.S. schools that have given scholarships to Afghan women.

5. Why do I have a feeling they're being pushed into this?
To me, this is a sign of desperation on the part of the Bush campaign.

12. You are so right!
Bush can't stand for anyone but a hardcore supporter. He is terrified of any dissent. All his campaign stops are stage managed hokum.

He needs his daughters and his wife to woo undecided voters. No one hates them...yet.

17. Make no mistake. They ARE being pushed into this
there's been little reports the last 4 years here and there that neither girl 1) has any interest in politics and 2) they don't agree with their dad's policies. I doubt they were forced in the literal sense, but they have been cajoled, argued with, had guilt trips laid on them as well as the old, "it'll be good for your career". They're doing it but I sure don't think they have their hearts in it.

8. Amy Strange,
you start one thread after another, many of which are subtle or not so subtle swipes at Kerry. Others are fairly neutral, like this one. You never seem to offer your own opinions/analyses of what you post. I almost feel like I'm listening to a recorded political advertisement on my telephone answering machine when I read what you've written. I also don't recall you responding to any posts following your initial ones. So, I would like to ask what your political positions are. I also wish that YOU would start adding personal commentary to your blitzkriegesque postings.
Thanks, saywhat

15. I don't start threads...
Edited on Sun Jun-13-04 12:54 PM by AmyStrange

as much as I am posting news stories that I think are relevent to the 2004 campaign. My philosophy is that we all need to know (and discuss) everything about the campaign both good and bad about all the candidates. Hiding your head in the sand about the bad ain't going to get Kerry elected. I do try to avoid blatant Kerry slamming though and try to only post news items that have an interesting idea behind them that needs to be discussed and some (if not most) have started some interesting discussions.

Here is my political position:

I am voting for Kerry in November and when he wins I will then work hard to get him to change his mind about things like gay marriage, but first we have to get him in office and I am doing everything I can (short of lying) to get Kerry in the office.

As far as responding to my threads, I do when there is something to which I can respond.

Thanx for asking,

d

9. I'll Give Them A Free Ride
Until they start overt political activities. Then they are fair game. For now, I'll let them have their peace.

They are just regular girls completing pilgrimages in Spain while listening to Ipods...

21. But see, DrFunkenstein,
she's one of the common folk. If you'll look closely you'll see thats one of the older, bulkier iPods. She's not going out and buying the very best; she's making do with what she has. What courage.

10. Oh yeah, *speeches*
What a magnificent change in tone for the Bush campaign...A little bit nutty, and a whole lot slutty.

I am sure they could have a serious influence with
those top CEO's and influential foreign supporters who like twins with oral skills. It's like Karl told them-- 'from each according to their abilities, to each, according to their needs.'

18. "So, like, my dad...
he's running for president, and like I support him, or whatever, and my sister totally supports him too.

And we TOTALLY think that you should vote for my dad, cuz like, he's really cool, and my mom is totally into this First Lady thing. And like, he has all these great qualities that everyone should know about, cuz he like got rid of Saddam Hussein or whatever, and like gave everyone tax cuts, which are awesome.

And so in conclusion, I'd like to say that ya'll should like, totally vote for my dad."
