Clinton Slams Obama Again: Reminisces About Hunting as a Girl
<snip>

"ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton continued her critique of Sen. Barack Obama's comments about small town America today, and used it to connect herself with the voters her opponent may have alienated.

Speaking about how Americans value their Second Amendment rights and enjoy hunting prompted Clinton to tell a story about her own hunting experience.

"You know my dad took me out behind the cottage my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl," she said. "You know some people have continued to teach their children and their grandchildren. It's part of culture, it's part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it's part of who they are. not because they are bitter"

Clinton also repeated some of her earlier lines, saying that she thought Obama's was "kind of elitist." Clinton repeated lines about faith -- and the way she views faith playing a role in society.

"My faith is the faith of my parents and my grandparents," she said. "It's a fundamental expression of who we are and what we believe in most profoundly and I disagree with Sen. Obama's assertion that people in our country cling to guns and have certain attitudes about immigration and trade simply out of frustration."

5. OK, she just overreached
It's one thing for Sen Clinton to play the "bitter" mishegoss for all it's worth, but then to turn it into a story about her youthful hunting adventures will undoubtedly strain her story to the very limits of credulity. She thinks it will provide her with authenticity, no doubt, but it will do just the opposite: it will remind people of her overreaching on Bosnia, on N Ireland, etc.

People remember Mittens' stories about hunting. I predict a similar response to Sen Clinton's.

Was there no way to weave in something like "not because muslim names bother them" or "not because they dislike unpatriotic candidates" or some other completely disconnected concept?

Did she leave her brain in her bookbag today?

130. As a political issue
Obviously. I don't think he meant that people literally cling to guns. I imagine that would be hard to do. What Obama said is what many liberals have said for a long time, that Republicans make social issues more important than actual things and end up hurting themselves by voting for Republicans instead of Democrats.

Do you really think he is wrong or are you just desperately trying to smear Obama who is going to be the candidate anyway?

as opposed to... Maybe I am reading too much into it, but I see this statement in the same vein as the infamous "as far as I know".

I tried in several posts, but I just CANNOT express how disgusted her statements today make me feel. Sickening, and I do not mean that as flame bait, nor metaphorically, not anything. It just makes me feel sick and disgusted.

Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 08:06 PM by merh
how that was used to humiliate him or make him a liar - he went hunting - was supposed to be a hunter, but he bought a new hunting jacket, he didn't have one of his own.

She just keeps dropping turds, she doesn't realize each of these piles she leaves behind smell to high heaven and even if she got the nomination, the RNC would smear these turds all over her campaign with great joy.

She is pathetic and she has some god awful advisers. Is Terry M. still on her team? I swear to god, he is the RNC operative.

he had the relations with Monica "because he could" it was the most honest and telling thing he ever said or ever would say. He was never concerned about the party, he was never concerned about the office, he just did what he did because he could and because he wanted it.

Nothing they have done has surprised me and that saddens me the most.

Homer and Bart peek out in between the venetian blind slats across the
street.

Bart: Wow, a former president living right across the street.

Homer: Oh, why did he have to move in on my territory? Look at him.
Thinks just because he led the free world, he can act like a big
shot! Stupid President...why couldn't he just stay in his own
state?

Lisa: Actually, this *is* one of the nine states where Mr. Bush claims
residency, Dad. I wouldn't have voted for him, but it's nice to
have a celebrity in the neighborhood.

Homer: Wait a minute...if Lisa didn't vote for him...and *I* didn't
vote for him --

Marge: You didn't vote for anybody.

Homer: I voted for Prell to go back to the old glass bottle. After
that, I became deeply cynical.

pretend to be John fucking Wayne? Remember Mittens Romney and his memories of shootin varmits? He was quickly exposed as a phoney. Now Hillary is tryin to make us believe that instead of the bookish introvert she appeared to be as a child that she was really Annie Oakley.

I think I'd vote for the first politician who admitted he didn't know which end of a gun the bullet came out of.

she apparently has no feminine side, or thinks it will win her votes to show that--as with everything else about her, she simply poses the way she thinks will win her votes, not in any authentic way.

If I'm going to vote for a woman simply because she's a woman, I don't want someone who acts like a man--whatever happened to feminism--you know, pride in womanness. what the *#( is this rambo crap?

I'm sure you and I both know that the usage of the term butch is not an uncommon word used in the gay community to describe someone hamming up the masculinity for show.

So save the fauxrage for the important stuff.

52. More than anything Clinton's response reminds of what she did when ...
John Kerry got slammed for his "stuck in Iraq" comment a couple of years ago. Kerry flubbed a line that he had used several times before. It was meant as a jab at Bush, but the way he said it that one time made it seem like a jab at the troops. Fair-minded people knew that he had just messed up. The Repukes and the MSM -- of course -- ignored the context and jumped at the chance to trash him. Most Democrats, including ones thinking about running for president in 2008, held their fire. But not Clinton: she saw a chance to knife a potential rival and, fairness be damned, she took it.

I was disappointed in her back then, but not this time. My opinion of both Clintons has fallen so low that nothing that selfish pair does surprises or disillusions me anymore. I have no more illusions about them.

113. She showed her true colors there
She could have specifically said that he misspoke and that was a problem - but she was willing to join the Republicans and say that a man who defended the troops - more than she and Bill together did - had attacked them.

I think it says something that Kerry was not out there, as one who experienced sniper fire, attacking her on her Bosnia fantasy. Also - here is what Kerry said when Bill Clinton's patriotism was challenged in 1992. Read this and you see someone who cares deeply about the people hurt by a divisive war, not someone who would use it for politics. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=5197294
