Who was the "frontrunner" to be Gore's VP in 2000?
I wasn't as big a follower of politics back in 2000. Anybody remember who were the major names mentioned to be the VP nominee. I have read here that Lieberman was not necessarily the early favorite to get the nod.

I've heard that Kerry, Graham, and Bayh were also under consideration in 2000.

1. many thought it was going to be Kerry and to a lesser extent Graham

but many thought it was going to be kerry when it was said they would announce at some war memorial. but it wasn't kerry.

john edwards was also on gore's short list.

even with lieberman being on the short list nobody really mentioned him as maybe being picked.

2. The four finalists were leaked
The final four were Kerry, Edwards, Lieberman, and Bayh. Edwards and Lieberman were THE FINALISTS - he went with Lieberman b/c he didn't think Edwards had the experience, what with just 1 1/2 years in govt. Bayh was eliminated first b/c he was seen as too much like Gore, and Kerry was dangled for weeks and seriously considered but then dropped - something that Kerry did not find pleasant and has influenced the way he conducts his own search.

Earlier, Dick Durban, Jeanne Shaheen, and Bob Graham were considered. Also said to be in the running for awhile were Fmr. Sen. George Mitchell of Maine and Gephardt.

3. Kerry didn't get it because of his private life and dating habits
although much of it was from after he separated from his first wife and before he got married to teresa. but he had dated various women between that time and gore wanted to run on family values or at least get away from clinton and monica thing.

but it turns out kerry is a great family man as seen with how many of them are working on his campaign and how well they get along with each other.

5. It was Kerry, Edwards, Lieberman, and Bayh
It came down to Edwards and Lieberman, with Lieberman getting the nod. I'd only point out that CW isn't always wrong, with no further comment.

7. Gore's mistake
Should have picked Kerry or someone from the South, which is what Clinton did.
