AP Dredges up Kerry fundraising scandal
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&e=3&u=/ap/20040620/ap_on_el_pr/kerry_fund_raising

WASHINGTON - John Kerry's campaign collected a maximum $2,000 check from the recently arrested son of South Korea (news - web sites)'s disgraced former president, and some of its fund-raisers met several times with a South Korean government official who was trying to organize a Korean-American political group.

The Kerry campaign said it did not know about the $2,000 donation from Chun Jae-yong or his background until informed by The Associated Press and has decided to return the money to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

"We are sending the check back," spokesman Michael Meehan said.

1. Not to worry
They'll be focusing on Edward's fundraising scandals (which are currently under investigation) if Kerry taps him for VP.

5. Exactly - and notice how they title this article
"AP: Kerry Took Money From Arrested Figure"

Not even "Arrested Figure Contributed to Kerry Campaign" or "Kerry CAMPAIGN Took Money from Arrested Figure" let alone "Kerry Campaign RETURNS Money..." It makes it seem more sinister to say "Kerry took" it. And "arrested figure" just sounds weird.

We should be engaging in the dirtiest, nastiest propaganda war ever endeavored by our party. We need to take off the gloves and do whatever it takes to beat these bastards back into the dark ages, where they belong.

6. TWO AP reporters make a story out of 2,000 Dem dollars...
while literal billions of taxpayer dollars remain unaccounted for under the Bushies, with very little attention from press or public.

I volunteered for a Dem primary candidate, working among other Americans abroad, and we worried about things like someone bringing a non-U.S. citizen to a fund-raiser as a guest, even though the guest was not contributing a cent to the candidate! Always, always, the double standard --

As I posted below, she's got another column reminding people that Kerry has the audacity to be wealthy.

groups backing it....

Damned, I wish I could find the article...because I posted one ages ago from the Chosun Ilbo, the South Korean paper, in the World Media Watch.
If I recall correctly, there are a bunch of US Senators who are backing N. Korean dissidents and wanted them to be able to enter the country. I think the most famous dissident actually did come and meet with bigwigs, and maybe even Cheney.

This seems to be a different group referred to in this article....but I do know that the South Koreans want this N. Korean dissident to spearhead a lobbying campaign to influence Congress, etc.

in my opinion, Nedra Pickler is the worst at the AP. And Ron Fournier isn't far behind her.

16. Another free pass for Bush
Remember when NBC news had a twice-weekly feature called "The Money Trail" where Lisa Myers would put the microscope on Clinton's fund raising. The title was an allusion to the Watergate era quote "follow the money" and implied there was wrongdoing or illegality at the root of these Clinton donations.

Well, Bush fundraising has dwarfed Clinton's, there is no more "Money Trail" the press does not seem to care that Bush received millions of dollars in funds organized through Enron which was then allowed to write energy policy. No, they are going to harp on $2,000 in foreign donations that slipped under the wire.

:nuke:

21. I got this in my email.
This is an excerpt from one of Joe Conason's articles published in Salon so if you subscribe you can read it in its entirety. I just wanted to post an example of how far the Republicans will go to discredit John Kerry. They'll use anything they can to create a Kerry scandal: financial irregularities, sexual dalliances and the "he wasn't really wounded that bad" talking point. It didn't bother those hypocrites when they trashed Max Cleland so it shouldn't surprise anyone that they'd do it to someone who is still able to walk. The Republicans really have no shame whatsoever.

Sorry, but I don't have a link for this article but here's three paragraphs:

By Joe Conason

June 18, 2004 | Whatever doubts I might have felt
about the current relevance of "The Hunting of the
President" -- the new documentary based on the book of
the same name by Gene Lyons and me -- were abruptly
dispelled last Tuesday evening, after the movie's
premiere screening in Little Rock, Ark.

As I was leaving the auditorium, an older gentleman
approached to shake my hand and offer his generous
compliments.

"I'm a Vietnam veteran," he said. "I served with John
Kerry. I'm supporting him for president, I've
campaigned for him -- and I want to tell you, they're
trying to do the same thing to him that they did to
Bill Clinton." He explained that in recent weeks, a
private investigator has contacted many of the vets
who served on the Navy's swift boats with Kerry.
According to him, the investigator asks insinuating
and sometimes outlandish questions about the former
lieutenant's wounds, decorations and military
operations. Exactly who hired the Kerry-bashing
detective is not yet clear, but his queries echo
accusations promoted by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth,
a Republican-backed band of Kerry-bashing veterans.

These Kerry-bashing detectives really need to be exposed and their tactics need to be revealed. There is no dirty trick that the Republicans won't use to get what they want.

22. bush posed with suspected terrorist 2000 campaign--remember this?

(photo) bush poses with suspected terrorist 2000 campaign

George and Laura Bush with Sami Amin Al-Arian during the 2000 campaign in Florida. Al-Arian is charged with 50 counts of terrorism. Al-Arian even went to a White House briefing with Karl Rove.

Terror Suspect Gave Bush his Margin of Theft in Florida
22-Feb-03
Before he was arrested as a top terror suspect, Newsweek reported that Sami Amin al-Arian "is one of the country's leading advocates for repeal of secret-evidence laws (his brother-in-law was jailed for more than three years on allegations an INS judge dismissed in December). When Bush decried the use of secret evidence during the campaign, the elder Al-Arian campaigned vigorously for the Republican at mosques and Islamic cultural centers. 'We certainly delivered him many more than 537 votes,' he says, referring to Bush's margin of victory in the election." Not only did Bush steal Florida, he stole it with the help of an accused terrorist! Ever the opportunistic hypocrites, Bush and Ashcroft have since shredded the Constitution to INCREASE evidence secrecy with the likes of Patriot Acts I and II! Impeach Bush Now!
