Laura Bush challenges Theresa Heinz-Kerry to bake-off
kind of...

http://www.georgewbush.com/Chat/Transcript.aspx?ID=18

Susan Leahy from Kimberly WI wrote:

Would you ever condider debating Mrs. Kerry? I guarantee with your class and intelligence, you would win hands down.

Mrs. Laura Bush answered:

Thanks for your kind words, but fortunately, Mrs. Kerry and I don't have to debate. Our husbands will be doing plenty of that. I think the only debating we'll be doing is over who bakes a better cookie! Family Circle magazine is running a contest to see who has the best cookie recipe. Go to www.familycircle.com to vote for my Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Cookies. They are the President's favorite!

4. Personally I like a First Lady who has a brain of her own
which is why the idiot freepers could never tolerate Hillary Clinton and I'm sure they'll be just as critical of Theresa Heinz-Kerry. Both women are intelligent and women who can think independantly of their husbands. They are what women want to be today not what women were back in the 1950s.

Not to be critical of Theresa (I adore her), but she probably had someone on that staff give her the recipes. She's running a major chartitable organization, I doubt she has time to be baking cookies to 'please her man'. I think Kerry likes her better for what the Heinz Foundation has done for the environment. How about a contest like that - which First Lady has the best 'recipe' for bettering the environment?

5. Saw this a few days ago.....the whole thing's kinda stupid, BUT...
...all you marketing/design people, is there anything that's supposed to send a 'subliminal message' with the lemon in the tea behind Mrs. Kerry's recipe and the glass of milk behind Mrs. Bush's??? Just curious....

6. Questioner is obviously
a Limbaugh listener. He has been at the forefront in the "Pickles is s-o-o-o classy" campaign. Repubs think Laura is so classy because she sits with her hands folded in her lap with a frozen "I'm completely sedated" look on her face and never voices an opinion. I believe that is why they hate Hillary. She HAS an opinion and is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. That rubs the "good ole boy network" the wrong way. They are threatened by Hillary's outspoken ways.

As much as I hate baked raisins, I voted for the pumpkin cookies. Though, they would be better in the fall?

13. This is part of an effort
to make Laura Bush look like a nice, safe, traditional wife and Theresa one of those evil free thinking women. Bleh. This is a campaign to win over white men.

And to the poster who wanted to know about the tea, milk thing, I think thats just because you would eat chocolate chips cookies with milk and spice cookies with tea.

14. They do this every four years. The winner has made it to the White
House since 1992. Tipper Gore submitted a Ginger Snap cookie recipe last time and the Laura-bot submitted a "cowboy cookie" recipe.

Family Circle would ask for my favorite cookie recipe and I'd have to hand them the directions off a roll of Pillsbury cookie dough.

19. I like cookies
I think that making cookies is a good thing for people to do. I think the candidates should make cookies together and that the houses of congress should make candy apples. The supreme court should have a Gingerbread house competition. This would all help lighten up the atmosphere.

22. LOL! If they're too busy, maybe just the husbands could participate.
I hope Bill Clinton is a good cook, since he doesn't have much to do now.

Really, the cabinet members should also be involved. Who has the flakiest pie crust?

Instead of trying to insult other people. Why don't you help your husband to learn how to read. That way he can study up on all the people that were killed or injured as a result of the actions Heir AWOL-Fraud and his own criminal mis-administration

23. This whole thing annoys me...but from what I've read Teresa
does cook and probably knows many cookie recipes. Laura on the other hand...who knows. So the typical media spin..vapid yes Repub woman is a good nurturing wife. No evidence. Warm, loving, incredibly intelligent, Dem wife who provides cookies to the press does not know how to cook or nurture. :eyes:

24. I be more interested in both candidates recipe for
what my family affectionately calls the "welfare meal" That is the meal that feeds a family of four on just what is in the pantry after the food budget has been spent and the pantry is fairly empty for the pay period. Judging would be based upon: low cost (not exceeding $1/person), nutrition, visual appeal, and taste. Bonus points if the meal is actually fun to eat.
A friend used to make baloney boats for her kids. Fried baloney, (you know how it curls up into a bowl shape)filled with mac and cheese. She then made little sails from constuction paper and toothpicks. Now that was fun food--those kids never knew they were eating "poor" that night

because they are quite yummy. I don't beleive I've ever had pumpkin spice but I bet they are good too as long as there's no Heinz ketchup involved.
