3. Wish I could say it was the Congressional Black Caucus scenes...
...not being able to get 1 freakin Senator (Mr. Kerry, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Daschle, et als???) to step up and challenge the theft of the Presidency, but *nobody* can deny the power of the lady from Flint and her very personal story.

13. Yes, I agree

That was an incredibly powerful scene. One that many of us didn't see before or remember. Perhaps a change in the Senate is really going to happen? Looks like at least we will have Obama! And one hopes he would have had the courage to sign.

(edited for grammar)

4. Bin-Laden financial support
for Bush at Arbusto and Harken Energy. There were no revelations in the film for me, but if I was a person who was not previously aware of the Bin Laden/Bush connection (as well as the Saudi/Bush family connection), I think that would have a huge impact on me. In the theater I was in (sold out), it seemed to elicit quite a response.

Moore did an outstanding job of drawing a very clear picture of the corruption the Bush family has wallowed in for decades.

I think the entire film will have a huge impact on the "fence sitters", or anyone who might have been, up until now, apolitical.

5. For me, it was a brief one, and not one on your poll
In the scenes where the civilian death tolls of Iraqis are being detailed, there is a brief statement from a man who is standing beside a pickup truck full of dead civilians. He reaches into the back of the truck and picks up a dead child. He is screaming about the innocence of the child.

I have two small children, and my oldest is about the same age as the child pictured in the film. I found this scene chilling and yet very effective in conveying the true cost of war. The innocent will die and are dying everyday in Iraq. That is a cost that I have never been willing to accept. Those deaths are directly attributable to Bushco's arrogant, greedy, uncaring policies. That blood is on their heads. Furthermore, this says nothing of the brave troops from all nations (but obviously, mostly from America) who have died in this misguided mission of greed and imperialism.

My only hope is that the American people will finally start to wake up to the reality of this situation. I also hope that the memory of these attrocities, misdeeds, and lies from this administration will remain embedded in the minds of voters come November. We can't bear (nor can the world) another four years of this mad man's rule.

6. Haven't seen it yet ..
but here are some responses >>

It forces the American people to have a conscience and to look at the truth and where this country's going," said the 47-year-old, who watched the first showing in Stockton. The scenes showing the conflict in Iraq were most troubling, said Martinez, who works at the Safeway distribution warehouse in Tracy.

"When that American soldier is screaming over and over about his leg injury, it's horrible," he said.

Critics have also pointed to a scene in which Moore makes the president look incompetent the morning the Sept. 11 attacks. Bush is reading a book to group of Florida elementary students when he gets word that a second plane crashed into the World Trade Center. He looks dumbfounded for seven minutes as the class reads.

Lathrop resident Larry Sanchez said the film has the power to affect the presidential race. For those straddling the political fence, all they have to do is watch the film's scenes of dead Iraqi civilians and U.S. troops.

7. The agony of the mother who lost her son
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 08:37 AM by Monica_L
and the woman in Iraq who sobs in the rubble of a relative's house and
says they have had five funerals in one week and keeps asking in an anguished voice "Where is Allah?"

Also the soldier who lost his hands and says he still feels crushing pain emanating from where his hands used to be saying it feels like his phantom hands are in a vise.

9. The mother... and the scenes of the true cost of war
the dean children... the woman sobbing to god... the solider in the hospital... the injured soldier... the soldier rushing out of that building to grab comrades after the explosion... the white sheet over the dead body of a soldier...

chilling and brings meaning to "shock and awe"

10. People who aren't political junkies
probably don't know about the Bush/Bin Laden connections. I think that will open a lot of eyes. Moore did a great job of showing just how deep those connections go. I was SHOCKED to hear how they own 6% of this country...all the money they invested here...600 BILLION $$$$! Damn. Daddy's close relationship with them, Bandar Bush being considered a member of the Bush family. It ALL stinks and I KNOW the average American doesn't know the shit that has been going on with Saudi Arabia for all these years. I think they will be shocked.

11. Classroom.
That's the one scene that will truly affect moderates who might see the movie. The Bush-bin Laden connections are either known by junkies or too complicated to follow for non-junkies. The mother's agony is the most emotional moment of the movie, but it's too easy to dismiss with "in war people get hurt,"

But the classroom scene is riveting for everybody. It juxtaposes the carefully created image of Bush as decisive with the lingering doubt people have that he's in waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over his head. I think it will hurt him.

The movie won't change many minds. But it doesnt have to. It's such an even split in the country, that even 1/2 of 1% switching would have potentially big results in the swing states.

12. I think it depends on the voter
I voted for the Mother's agony because I'm an Independent and I think that will be the one that gets to the swing or Independent voters the most. Many who are on the fence simply do not want to believe that their pResident is ineffectual, simple, corrupt, a Saudi pawn and, well, a self-righteous creep, even if it's presented right before their eyes. They may even believe some of Moore's critics and think Moore pushed the envelope a bit too far.
However, they will, particularly if they have children, see the mother's journey from a conservative Democrat to an out-and-out Bush hater as valid and realistic.
Now, as a rallying cry, I'd say Bush looking like a confused child or all of the connections to the bin Ladens and the Saudi royalty will spur staunch Democrats into furthering the cause to GOTV.

14. I think it's the collection of scene upon scene upon scene.
But I clicked on the classroom sequence, because I could visualize myself or anyone else DOING something. Anything. Excusing himself and going out in the hall and asking what the heck is going on. But he looked scared to me. The scene sticks in my mind.

But so does the woman bent over crying, "My son, my son" in front of the White House. I let out a visible sob, despite my efforts not to. I've seen lots of documentaries and a lot of mothers crying about sons lost in war, but I've never seen one that captures the pain like that.

15. Thousands protest Bush's Inauguration
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 03:56 AM by Sven77
The most powerful scene for me was the videos the corporate media would not allow the sheeple to see. In particular was the thousands of people protesting at Bush's Inauguration. The video of the egg thrown and smashed against Bushes car and then the limo speeding off.
