Kerry & Edwards 4th of July plans
snip---

WASHINGTON - In a move bound to increase speculation about his vice presidential hopes, Sen. John Edwards heads to Boston next week to headline at least two fund-raisers for Sen. John F. Kerry on his home turf.

The North Carolina senator will hit up Bay State donors on July 5 even as the man for whom he's collecting finalizes a choice of running mate. While Edwards has been hosting fund-raisers across the country in past weeks, this is his first foray into Kerry's backyard.

Although Kerry could wait until just days before the Democratic National Convention to make his pick, it may happen as soon as this weekend.

Kerry is spending July 4 in Iowa as part of his ``Celebrating the Spirit of America'' bus tour with another potential running mate, Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack. But Kerry will head back east on the 5th.

So for those expecting a July 4th VP announcement, you'll be rooting for Vilsack.

Interesting how Kerry has Edwards campaigning in Kerry's backyard. ;-)

1. most fundraising is done in liberal places like boston , dc, la, nyc
or at least those are the places which bring in the most money.so i wouldn't look anything into this just as i wouldn't look anything into the iowa thing other than it being a swing state that kerry wants to focus on whether or not he puts vilsack on the ticket.

3. Sweet!
I wish I could, but the holiday traffic probably won't be that great for a 700-mile trip. x(

9. July 4th
Kerry will be here in Cedar Rapids on the 4th, speaking at our Czech/Slovak museum downtown by the river just before the fireworks display. I am not sure what exactly the "entertainment" is going to be, but there is suppose to be some sort before his actual speech.

Downtown Cedar Rapids on the 4th is crazy-busy for a city of our size (right around 120,000 I think counting the metro-area). This should be a great time.

Still looking for volunteers to help!

I will let you all know how it goes.

4. VERY interesting...

All the event-related speculation heretofore aside, THIS actually strikes me as being somewhat significant. Have any of the other 'vetted' candidates for VP been invited to speak on Kerry's behalf in MA recently?

5. I think it's significant too, but...
I don't know what it means, so that and $5 can get you a (very large) cup of Starbucks coffee. I think we are at the end game stage now. The decision was made or will be very soon, methinks.

Without having to debate why Edwards is popular, or how deep his popularity runs, Edwards IS popular now. Kerry knows that. It is clear that Edwards can help Kerry on or off the ticket, and it is clear that Edwards has personal ambition. So maybe Kerry is going with Edwards, or maybe he isn't and they have reached some kind of understanding about it, possibly including Edward's future role in the campaign and Kerry's Administration. If the latter were the case, a nice show of unity in Boston would be a shrewd political move. If the former were the case, showing up together there is also a shrewd political move. I suspect in hindsight people will look back on this period and say that Kerry handled the VP issue very well. I believe Kerry will be able to pull off maintaining Party Unity.

8. I read about atleast one of the fund raising events...
Edwards will be speaking at the annual Trial Lawyer Association meeting in Boston and raising money from that group for Kerry.

I imagine that will generate a huge amount of money for Kerry especially having Edwards as the one doing the talking. Edwards is highly regarded among lawyers.
