Al Sharpton is speaking at the wrong convention...
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 06:39 PM by Greedy Oil Puritan
He should be speaking on behalf of the GOP in New York, the same city in which he campaigned for REPUBLICAN governor Tom Pataki and former REPUBLICAN senator (and an extremely far-right and corrupt one at that) Al D'Amato.

I love what Al Sharpton pretends to stand for, but Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama have done a far better job of walking the walk.

1. Pataki's first name is George
and Sharpton has been great throughout the primaries and the debates...where've you been?

2. Oops...
I just posted something at a different messageboard in which I mentioned independent Pataki opponent Tom Golisano. That being said, how clean has Sharpton come about D'Amato?

3. Don't trash Sharpton - He has come a long way and
he has some devoted followers. My opinion of him went way up during the primary debates. as he handled himself very well. I remember him once saying that "Anyone up here (the Dem Candidates)would be better than what we have now." This is in total agreement with everyone on DU. It's a big tent and we want him inside, (as per LBJ's famous comment). I have also heard fellow Dems say that they would easily vote for Al Sharpton than for Bushco.

4. So would I...
But considering he led a campaign rally in support of Pataki less than 2 years ago...

Well, you get my point.

6. He rocked during the primaries.
He was a total jerk during the New York state races though.

Imho.

9. But I still thought it was a great speech. The pundits seemed shocked.
Sharpton is Sharpton. I thought he was super. He roused everyone, got the passion flowing. He shouted too much. Other than that, I thought it was super. He said some things that needed to be said. I don't think they were too strong. Although not in keeping with the "positive" speeches thing for the convention, it doesn't hurt to have one or two people say what people are really thinking.
