5. Most of what he has stood for is hanging by 5-4 or 6-3 vote on the US SC
I don't know what his deal is.

7. sheesh ... more nader bashing
polls like this, which of course accomplish absolutely nothing and are a total waste of bandwidth, fail to make any discrimination whatsoever between the message and the messenger ...

i have no affection for ralph nader nor do i support his running for president, either now or in 2000 ... he made and is making a tragic mistake by doing so ...

but i deeply admire nader's message and its deep understanding that most of our political process centralizes power in the hands of very few people and that most government policy is shaped to serve large corporate shareholders ...

i am troubled that "nader is a jerk" threads and those who think themselves so politically effective by spelling his name "Nadir" fail to acknowledge the important points that nader frequently campaigns on ... it is not a happy business that democrats and republicans are able to totally control the election process nor is it healthy to allow such strong influence of corporate money during either elections or legislative deliberations ...

8. This Is The Problem
Whatever Nadar's message may have been in distant years past, his current message is that it is OK that Bush wins. Any practical individual knows that either Kerry or Bush will win. That is the choice. If Nadar is not for Kerry, then his message is that he is for Bush. It is just that simple and that is why many of us on DU don't care for Nadar or his "message."

9. distant years past ?

this is an interesting way to define the situation:
If Nadar is not for Kerry, then his message is that he is for Bush.

it is exactly the point i'm making ... being "for bush" is NOT nader's message; it's your objection to nader ... nader's message, is just as i stated it ... he believes that 2 parties have a stranglehold on the election process ... he believes this stifles alternative views on the issues ... he believes "big money" is able to buy the favors of both major parties and that powerful corporate interests "own" our government and carry far too much control over government policies ...

as i stated in my previous post (and in many other posts), no way should nader be running ... and he absolutely should not have run in 2000 ... he was wrong then and he's wrong now ... but don't tell me that his "message" is that bush should win ... his "message" is that our election process is badly damaged ...

and you shouldn't need to have any respect at all for nader to understand that on many of the issues he raises, he's right on the money (pun intended) ... even a stopped clock is right twice a day ... look beyond the messenger's deficiencies and understand that what nader is saying is critically important and is in keeping with the views of many of us on the left ...

10. Absolutely true, Welsh Terrier
Nader's message is challenging the corporate control that permeates our government and both major political parties. That control has become undeniable. Our system is broke and needs fixing if we are to have any hope of preserving democracy.

11. I Simply Disagree
Of course, I don't consider myself "on the left." If you just listened to the so called Bush message, it mught not sound too bad. What's wrong with compassion? What's wrong with leaving no child behind? But we all know that is not his true message. His conduct and behavior is his message. His conduct and behavior is that of a very right wing individual. Likewise, with Nadar. His conduct and behavior is the message. His conduct an behavior says that he will do nothing to defeat Bush. That is his message.
