1. Kerry 328--Bush 210
but a lot more barely Kerry's (WV,TN, FL, WI, MO, IA, NM, AZ, OR) than barely Bush's (NV)

5. pretty much what you'd expect.
those places that Bush has strong support have been solid for two years, while the places Kerry has support are just solidifying over the past few months.

2. hmm. I think it'll be different
I see several states on the bubble that I think will go the other way. Personally, I think Bushco will pull out Florida and probably New Mexico, but I think that having Maine as weak Kerry is wrong (strong Kerry at the end) And I also believe that Ohio, Virginia and Lousiana are more in play than these polls indicate and that two of the three will be blue in November.

Oregon will go Kerry, no doubt. Arkansas will probably go Bush, in the end, and so will Tennessee, I wager.

10. Why New Mexico?
I would think New Mexico would be more blue than it was last time.

15. Weapons industries in New Mexico
Again I cruse Oppenheimer for building the A-bomb in Los Alamos.

We have a lot of people here in New Mexico that work for the weapons industry. They tend to lean toward a the Political Party that will ensure that they can suck on the tit of the government by supporting the need for more WMDs.

The south of the state can be very conservative. There are long time ranchers who aren't keen on environmentalist. There are pockets of liberals in Las Cruces (college town) and Silver City, but then there are some of the most conservative areas surrounding those pockets. Lots of the ranchers benefit from open grazing of public land. There was a big uproar from this contingent when we first released gray wolves (lobos) into the wilderness.

In the Central part of the state, there is the whole gamut of political ideology. In the Northern part of the state, people are either FDR yellow dog democrats or very liberal. Most of the Green Party's strength comes from the north. :hippie:

To many Hispanics who were alive during the depression, my father was one of this group, FDR's New Deal programs were a god save. They passed this belief that the Democratic Party is the one party that is truly for the people down to their kids

I would say in, very generalized terms, that many of the old time New Mexicans tend to lean toward the Democratic Party. Many of the newer residents are either Green or Republican.

4. This brings up an interesting point
What if bush wins the popular vote but Kerry wins the electoral college, just the opposite of 2000? That wouldn't be my choice of how it should be(I want Kerry in a landslaide), but it sure would be ironic. Then we could tell them to "just get over it", etc. My fear is that the above scenario should happen, the Supreme Court would find a "loophole" to keep bush and co. in power.

9. Electoral votes trump popular votes
so the Supreme Court would have no grounds to do that. They would have to dismantle the electoral college after the fact and after its existence in our Country since its inception. Not that I don't think Bush would try something. Either way, I don't think more people like Bush anyway.

11. I dont think this election is going to be as close as suspected
Ive always thought it would be a blow out. But, lets not get over confident. The october surprise and bushies impending hard core mud slinging could tip the scales.

I hear Frankens radio program is going to be televised.... is that correct? Anyone know where, when? That could be the icing on the cake if he can grab some prime time coverage.

13. A Great add in states that are not solid for either
would garauntee the win for Kerry.
Speaking as someone who has never been a Kerry fan, he warms up and becomes appealing when he is relating to children.
I wish he would consult with Dean and others who are against NCLB and then make a commercial saying it either has to be overhauled or overturned altogether. He would gain the support of TONS of educators and it would give him a chance to show himself talking to kids.

17. Only shows we have to get out there even more!!
I am going with the Sierra Club for Kerry on a weekend trip to Reno going door to door talking environmental issues, we are handing out flyers that show Bush is ruining it and Kerry has voted to make it better all his years in the senate. Yucca Valley nuclear waste is a big issue for them and Bush lied to them (no suprise!!) about saying in 2000 he would wait until scientists said it was safe before he approved it, then in 2002 he approved it with 239 scientists saying...whoa...wait...we have safety problems here!!! And of course Kerry has always been against moving the waste there for those very reasons.

I will let you know what the people say...we are going to ALL doors, not just dems...

20. Does anyone know what the registered voter breakdown is by state?
Though I'm glad to see JK leading I think these polls are basically crap manipulated by the media to get you hooked on their newscast/radio program/newspaper/website.

Bush leads here! Kerry leads here! Bush and Kerry are tied over there! Sports and weather coming up next!

It's like the tobacco companies putting nicotine in their cigarettes to get you addicted.

I'd rather see the breakdown of registered Democrats/Republicans voters by state to get a better picture of how this election will go.

I can't see many registered Dems voting for Bush but I can see a few Reps going for Kerry.

Is this info on the electoral college site or anywhere else?

21. I'm surprised by the Ohio poll ...

With as many job losses there, I would expect more Kerry (anti-Bush) support. As Kerry runs more ads, I expect that Bush will wane in some of these states.

And of course, I think we have to understand that traditional polling doesn't reach MANY, MANY unemployed persons out there who don't have a land line. It also doesn't reach college students who primarily use cell phones.
