The Detroit Free Press had a write up on Kerry's huge rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan the other day.

"City Spokeswoman Annette Guifoyle said police estimated 20-25,000 people attended the Kerry event, which would make it one of Grand Rapids' largest political rallies in recent memory. Hundreds waved blue and white "Help is on the way" signs.

About 4,000 people turned out to see Bush, who spoke Friday only a few blocks away..."

Grand Rapids is generally a republican city too I believe. Jerry Ford represented them in congress for 25 years.

2. My thoughts also - Kerry may get hecklers but he also gets large and
enthusiastic crowds that will drown out the hecklers. Bush's tightly scripted appearances do not compare well with the Kerry public celebrations. Kerry is following the Harry S. Truman model for campaigning. Wide open campaign stops in all the battleground states through August, September, October. It works. Meanwhile Bush is pissing people off with his attempt to only appear before loyal audiences. How does he expect to win over undecideds if they are shut out of his campaign events?
