Having their convention in New York is a COLOSSAL blunder
I live in NY and was surfing to find out where I can go to protest and found a few things. Here is a sample.

The Republican National Committee has, for the first time in their 150 year history, selected New York for their Convention from August 29-September 2, 2004. In a shallow attempt at exploiting the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the RNC has pushed the Convention date to September. We have witnessed two unjust wars, at least one American life lost each day overseas, a depressed economy, the collapse of the dollar, $87 billion to boost war profiteering, the closing of our firehouses, a health-care crisis, millions of children being left behind, and now this. We say, Enough!

The Republican National Convention will be held in New York City in early September in an attempt to capitalize off of the fears and emotions surrounding the 9/11 attacks. War criminal George W. Bush will be formally nominated as the presidential candidate of the Republican Party. Hundreds of thousands of people will descend upon the city to voice their opposition to the Bush agenda. These protests will utilize a variety of new creative tactics of direct action to help shut down the convention. In addition to the battle on the streets, hackers will wage a battle on the internet.

4. The RNC is loving the prospect of protesters.
They are going to able to milk them to no end with the way they can exploit the media coverage of anti-Bushites making the city/municipal/state/ and federal employees hard work in maintanance and more importantly security harder in an already hardest ever climate.

The cost/benefit probability of protesting the Republican convention is stacked demonsterably higher in favor of the republicans than what democrats could possibly ever gain out of it.

5. That will only help with the already-committed-to-Bush.

Normal Americans -- who outnumber those who are actually committed to the anti-American Bush agenda by a large margin - understand that dissent is not terrorism.

I don't care how many doom-and-gloom predictions I read at DU, when I go out in the real world, most Republicans I talk to are not mindless Bushbots who are ready to scrap the Constition and acquiesce to a dictatorship. Large numbers of them will vote for Kerry.

6. It will be successfull ...

If the people of New York let them get away with it.

It's my sincere hope that the cops will go on strike and the streets of New York will turn into a spontaneous 4 day demonstration against GW Bush. If they could shut down the electricity to the convention center, that would just be beautiful!!!!!

8. Also
during the American Revolution, the #1 patriot city was Boston. One of the biggest Loyalist cities was New York City.
