National Democratic Convention Does Not Show Obvious Momentum for Kerry.
PHOENIX, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- In the aftermath of the Democratic National Convention, a new Arizona Republic Poll shows that presidential nominee John Kerry gained no ground on President Bush in Arizona.
In three days of polling 601 likely Arizona voters after the close of last week's convention, the newspaper found that Bush retained an advantage of 3 percentage points over Kerry, the same margin measured in mid-June by a Republic poll.
The latest figures showed 48 percent in support of Bush, 45 percent for Kerry and only 7 percent undecided. Seven weeks ago, Bush had 44 percent to Kerry's 41 percent.
Full poll results to be published in Wednesday's edition of The Arizona Republic also still show marked contrasts in how Arizonans view the two candidates in areas of national security and domestic policy. Arizona voters continue to see President Bush as more capable of handling war and combating terrorism, but U.S. Sen. John Kerry is the better choice to deal with domestic issues such as health care, the environment and energy, according to The Republic poll.
