Statistics on the media using the terms "Kerry bashers" vs "Bush bashers"
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 03:47 PM by Democat
I was reading an article in LBN and it talked about Republicans at a Kerry rally bashing Kerry and instead of calling them "Kerry bashers" they called them "Bush backers". Why?

Bush has run one of the most negative campaigns in U.S. election history.

Why is it that in the media, when you support Kerry, you are a "Bush bashers", but when you support Bush, you are not a "Kerry basher?"

Take a look at these stats from News.Google.com:

"Kerry basher" - 1 match
"Bush basher" - 135 matches

"Kerry bashers" - 2 matches
"Bush bashers" - 190 matches

"Kerry bashing" - 21 matches
"Bush bashing" - 2460 matches

"Bush backers" - 193 matches
"Kerry backers" - 91 matches

This is undeniable proof that the media is biased in Bush's favor.

What can we do?

1. This doesn't at all surprise me
You may think of sending it off to Bob Somerby at the Daily Howler, or Paul Krugman at the NYT.

4. What time frames did you measure?
If taken since Kerry threw his hat into the Presidential ring it will have more influence. Remember the term Bush Basher/Bush Hater etc has been a meme even before Kerry joined the race.

It doesn't make the Bush basher meme right but your study should take that into account. If this is a comparison say over the last 6 months...the bias is all the more galling.

5. Whatever News.Google.com has in their system
You are right about getting the numbers right since Kerry became the candidate to beat. I'm sure someone with a subscription to one of the media monitoring services could do a much better study, but the numbers pretty cleary show there is a major bias. 21 vs. 2460 is bad, no matter what the time frame.

6. Here are the stats for the last 30 days according to News.Google.com
"Bush bashing" - 2420 matches
"Kerry bashing" - 20 matches

That includes the convention when the entire right wing was bashing Kerry. :(

8. I sent CNN an email about this last week asking about 'Kerry Bashing'
since they and their guests were constantly bashing Kerry but never talked about the 'Kerry Bashing' going on but instead spent so much time talking about the 'Bush Bashing.' No fair play whatsoever.

9. Maybe we should contact OUT FOXED film crew!
You are right. We need to somehow get this info out to the voters
before the election. Maybe contact those who speak out of the Democrats such as Howard Dean, Al Frankin, Howard Stern, James Canfield, Mary Cahill (Kerry's campaign manager) and other outspoken people for the Democrats.
What about the Media Fund, Move-on.org, America Coming Together?
