Moderate, IKE/Goldwater Republicans raised children who frolicked in the creeks and in the park. In the post WWII era, safety and security was paramount. After such an atrocity, the safety and security of the family was so important and nourishing.

The moderate Republicans supported public broadcasting, the arts, environmental causes such as Earth Day, the Sierra Club, and education, fiscal responsibility, and less government intrusion into the personal lives of ordinary citizens--particularly the separation of church and state.

What happened, and when?
