1. Talk about pandering to the African American voters
They know the only way they can compete against Obama is to have another black candidate and god forbid one of them is Alan Keyes.

4. As long as they're reaching, why not try and get David Chapelle
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 10:19 AM by soupkitchen
That way not only would they get a 'real' brother,
they would get a real rich brother.

Of course, I would love to see the skit David could do of some Republicans coming to ask him to run for the Senate. I don't think he would use the B word.

2. WAIT!!!! Keyes doesn't even live in Illinois
Yes, I know Hillary never lived in NYC but at least she moved to the state about a year before she made her run for US Senate.

It's less than 100 days until the election and the guy doesn't even live in the state. He'll probably rent an apartment in order to be qualified for the race in Illinois

6. Residency
He only needs to be a resident of IL the day of the election. If he is the best they can bring to the show, they have truly lost.

I still stand by my recommendation to IL GOP and that is to grab some low level GOP in some obscure county board and have him/her run. Guaranteed loss, but save that money, save the dignity of any other 'named' GOPper and rebuild to fight for Durbin's seat. Instead, they will only look like a circus act. That is fine by me, I think Durbin and Obama from IL is a great team to have in the Senate.

8. If it is Alan Keyes, and that ...
is still an IF at this point, the debates between obama and keyes should be interesting and, imo, be classified as a "MUST SEE" event ...

11. We can definately get him on carpetbagging!!
Sure we had Hillary but she had the deceny to move to the state at an early time and establish a permament home in New York.

But Keyes, geez, he's like "You need a Black Conservative running, I'm your guy - we'll figure out the MD/IL stuff later on)

9. IL does not have a law that requires people to have spent time...
... in the state. So long has he changes his residency by Nov. 1 he can run.

7. Keyes gets the gay-bashing issue...
... into the campaign. Keeps the repugs' reputation for bile-spewing hate-filled genuine-issue-avoiding demagoguery intact.

How a black man in America stands up and says "those people" don't deserve the same rights as "the rest of us" because that's "what God intended"....

Ugh. My head hurts.
