Think about it, the prevailing RNC message has been that Kerry is too liberal. If Kerry loses this year, then the DNC is going to think that that was the problem. Then in 2008, the party will most likely nominate a Zell Miller/Joe Lieberman type in another desperate attempt to reach the centre. We as liberals simply cannot allow this to happen. If a fellow liberal is in trouble of being attacked for what they stand for, then we all have to rally around him, instead of bickering about who's leftier than thou or whatever. We cannot let the Republican notion that someone like Kerry is too far left for mainstream America.

1. There is no such thing as "too liberal"
Real leaders make the rest of the country more liberal than they thought they were.

5. In a word, yes.
The Right's current theme, which the media is all to happy to parrot, is that anyone to the left of Bush is a secret Communist. It's not so much a new theme, but the Right has finally managed to buy all the media outlets, so it seems new.

7. I love George McGovern's answer to this
I point out that America has long sustained two valuable and competing political traditions -- liberalism, going back to Thomas Jefferson, and conservatism, finding its founding father in Alexander Hamilton. It is the creative tension between liberalism and conservatism that is the genius of American politics. But great forward movements have nearly always been advanced by liberals over conservative opposition. Social Security, Medicare, the Food and Drug Administration, rural electrification, civil rights, the environmental movement, woman's rights, minimum wages, and others have been advanced by liberals.

And of course JFK's great speech What is a Liberal?
