Things that Springsteen missed that we can fix
I like the guy, and appreciate him; to be fair, he was okay with the ever-smarmy Koppel, but he did miss many things that far too many on the left seem to regularly miss of late. Gently, here are some suggestions.

Artists are constantly denigrated and asked why anyone should listen to them. Admittedly, "celebrities" are useless and often vapid, but many famous creative people do what they do because of a love of life and humanity. As such, they often know more about the human condition than others, and since they work in a brutally capitalistic system, their word often IS worth more than others with "real" jobs. Too many people have a superficial view of art, considering it only entertainment. Real artists are more in touch than the average schmoe; indeed, the currency of their existence is the understanding of humanity itself.

So what that Kerry's plans for the near future in Iraq aren't much different than Junior's? The issue isn't what he'd do in Iraq, but what he'd do to Syria, Iran and the rest of the other inferiors who constantly get in our way with their pesky existences. I seriously doubt Kerry ever would have ginned up this revenge war anyway, and the fact that their plans to extricate us aren't polar opposites doesn't mean dick.

As for the "why do you care" question, it should be reminded to all askers of such barbed inanities that many of us care about things that don't directly add to or subtract from our immediate pile. I don't want my kids to see sad, sick and old people crushed by a system that wants to sustain privilege. I also don't think it works in the long run, regardless of the humanity.

As for the "you lefties bellyache about big money in politics" question, it should be responded to with something akin to this: we're fighting clumps of big money with a whole bunch of small money. Vested interests with their limitless coffers opened for crushing anyone against them are being fought by many, many common folk and their hard-earned small money. That's the common voice.

Just some thoughts...
