Poll: John Kerry Enjoys Wide Lead in California
Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry (news - web sites) has a strong lead over President Bush (news - web sites) in California, a state that has voted Democratic in recent national elections, according to a poll released on Friday.

A Field Poll of 633 Californians between July 30 and Aug. 4 found that 51 percent favored challenger Kerry against 40 percent for Bush. Seven percent of those polled were undecided in the survey, which had a 4.1 percent margin of error.

The latest numbers have changed little from a Field Poll in May, which found 51 percent backing Kerry and 39 percent behind the incumbent.
Most California state office-holders and its two U.S. senators are Democrats, although Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) has said he will campaign for Bush.
