Poll shows Bush losing ground in California
California isn't likely to become a battleground state judging by the results of a new Field Poll that shows Sen. John Kerry continues to hold a double-digit lead in the state in his bid to unseat President George W. Bush.

<snip>

The telephone survey - taken after the Democratic convention - shows Kerry with a 53 percent to 41 percent lead over Bush with 6 percent undecided.

<snip>

"The stability of the preferences is remarkable," said Field director Mark DiCamillo. "It would take some major events in the campaign or news events to shake people out of their current positions."

The survey shows that among Californians, the election continues to be more about Bush than Kerry with 58 percent of those who said they prefer Kerry saying theirs is more a vote against Bush than for the Democratic nominee.

1. California hasn't been a battleground
state for years. Nor has NY. Both states are safe in the Kerry column.

2. 53-41 is almost the exact margin
from the 2000 election. In that race, Gore received 53% and Bush received nearly 42%. That's definitely encouraging. :)

3. Gropenator's speech at the R convention should be good for
something, right? I wonder if he can cause any kind of bump in bush's status in CA - maybe we'll see a dent rather than a bump.

4. Big implications for the popular vote, as we recall
Let's hope the electoral vote follows this time.
