Did anyone mention he was carring a ROCKET LAUNCHER?

That could have KILLED HIS CREW?

GOOD. DESERVES a Silver Star for it IMHO.

3. Hey....
At least Kerry has the ability to react to a serious situation. It took Bush almost 30 minutes to leave a little preschool in Florida when we had one of the worse disasters in our nations history.

5. I don't understand this BS either
He shot a guy before the guy shot him.

It is not like he mowed down someone's grandmother.

6. They're claiming the kid was unarmed.
And that it was a kid for starters.

Which I have nothing to say to really.

10. Yes
they want people to think Kerry killed Mowgli.

The fact is, MOST soldiers in MOST wars are "teenagers".

Oh definely most people in war are teens, we got people there now who are only a little older than me and since the beginning of time, people have lied their age to get in to war, in Kerry and I's favorite book, Flags of Our Fathers by James Bradley, there is a story about a guy named Chick who was only 12 when he enlisted in the Navy Medical Corps, no one knew how old Chick really was until he was blown to pieces in the batlte of Iwo Jima, just sad, but he was a hero.

13. War sucks, and makes good people do bad things
Kerry did what was necessary. It was neither right nor wrong, it was something he did out of self-preservation. RWers blaming him for that is extremely hypocritical, IMHO, as they're usually the first ones to reach for the Howitzer if somebody's trespassing on "their property", especially if they're unarmed.

Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 03:46 PM by stopbush
Most people don't know that during the Vietnam War there was an unwritten rule that you couldn't shoot anyone in the back. Since Americans were so upstanding, the VC used this against them. See, the VC would lob a few grenades and pepper the Americans with machine gun fire. When it was time to reload, they'd stand up in full view of the Americans, making sure to show them their backsides. The Americans would always honor this unspoken rule, holding their fire until the VC had reloaded/been resupplied and had turned to face the Americans. That was the sign to "shoot away!"

In fact, this VC tactic was so successful that it was adopted as a way of avoiding conflict altogether by certain American chicken hawks who "had other priorities" than showing their faces to the enemy...or who felt safe with their backsides facing Nam as they flew flower deliveries from TX to AL.

Some even extended this tactic to 9/11 when they turned tail and ran away from terror attacks on the east coast, putting their brave backsides on display for the entire world to see. I can't remember their names...maybe someone can help me out here.

On edit: it's an established fact that most land armies throughout history take the greatest number of casualities during a retreat. Look it up if you don't believe me. So much for not shooting people in the back.

17. What I Don't Get

is the sudden mawkish sympathy for the VC! OK, I was old enough to remember VIVIDLY what the hawks said (and still say!) about our enemies in wartime.

"Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out!"

They loved "free fire zones" and set their guns on "rock and roll" (full automatic), talked grandly about "lighting Charlie up" which had NOTHING to do with cigarettes! They bragged about how men collected ears, hands, mementos of the bloody fighting.

On my button banner I have several Viet Nam era buttons, the most telling of which is a B-52 airplane silhouette forming the center and arms of a peace symbol (black on yellow) and around the plane's shape are the words "DROP IT!" meaning, of course, the Atomic Bomb.

During the Guld War, at a science fiction club meeting, I heard Dr. Jerry Pournelle (slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun) say loudly "Hell, if I were in charge of this, I'd nuke 'em til they glow, and then shoot 'em in the dark!" In that same era, I heard such words of wisdom as "What's long, black and made of glass? Iran, ten seconds after we get through with it!"

So John Kerry shoots one Viet Cong boy carrying a rocket launcher and suddenly... BOOO HOOOO HOOOOO! Thiose big words collapse like a hot air balloon and they are weeping copiously!

What...............the..................F!CK!

Perhaps it is because those who have actually FACED another human being in war, knowing that only ONE of them must walk away alive... that person is humbled by the experience of taking life!

That is the difference between a chickenhawk and the Real Deal!

18. You are sooo right
The first joke I heard after arriving in country was the "war plan" It was to gather up all the "good gooks" and put them on a huge ship and send them out into the South China Sea and then level the country, nuke it, destroy everything, not a living soul left then sink the boat. Ha Ha big joke. Welcome to Vietnam.
