Why doesn't Kerry speak out more about the environment - isn't it
supposed to be one of his strongest issues? Its a "win-win" scenario that anyone - old, young, rich, poor, city person, suburbanite, "soccer mom", any ethnicity can relate to - all except the extreme loony right wing.
I'm not referring to a 100 page position paper but something to be passionately addressed every day on every day on the campaign trail.
Jobs and the environment - jobs and the environment - every day until November.

1. He really does need to do a better job of this.
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 06:42 PM by Langis

9. Well he should listen to him then!
RFK Jr does such a better job of articulating the damage Bush has done to the environment then Kerry does.

2. Good question.
The Economist poll indicates that there is a good sector of the population (including all of those Greens and Nader people) that cares deeply about the environment.

And look at the alternative. :puke:

12. Its a vital issue - for many of us....
yet its hardly a blip in his daily campaign talks.
What's with him?
Some say its because he's taking his "talking points" from Clinton's old DLC buddies like Al Fromm who could give a shit about the environment. I only hope that isn't' true.
C'mon, John, show what you're made of - are you one of us or aren't you? Stop running to the stupid right and ignoring your base.

4. Why preach to the choir
He has to win the swing vote which is more concerned about the economy and the Iraq war.

7. There are plenty of swing voters who regard themselves
as enironmentalists.

5. In 2003, John Kerry has a 100% rating from the Sierra Club
enviornmental group.

You're right, he should talk about it more.

A mistake Al Gore made was assuming everyone knew what a great environmentalist he was and not talking about it more and meeting with more environmental groups.

11. IMO, Green Technology Should Be The Fulcrum
for Kerry's campaign.

It touches economic property and our homeland security.

It makes the GOP look like the obstructionist dinosaurs they are.

19. I agree. This is where national security, the economy and
the environment all come together.

Put his plan against skyrocketing gasoline costs, and who could refuse?

13. Bush is a total loser on the environment. We have to hit him on it
all the time - not just on selected days - every day!!! I know Kerry has a great rating from the Sierra Club - I'm talking now - on the campaign trail - open the mouth - let the words come out!!

And just why do you think RFKjr is on the talk shows with a new book right now?

18. it's a common thing
kerry talks about something and then people post on here asking why he doesn't talk about it. yet when there are posts on that issue they rarely get responses.

21. Maybe because there is so much agreement here on the issue
it doesn't generate enough controversy to get people gabbing.

17. Agree but

I am a staunch environmentalist, but I recognize the playbook.

People like me who have seen the assault on our nations environmental laws, continued exploitation, and economic cost externalization are so disgusted with Bush we can't see straight.

ANY Democrat would have been a marked improvement over bush...ANYONE who has ANY concern over the environment will put that check in the "NOT BUSH" column. Those who rate the environment as one of their main issues will certainly not vote for Bush.

Folks who consider it an issue, but not the #1 or 2 issue will need to be persuaded by Kerry on other issues (war, jobs, taxes, etc) that he is the better choice.

I expect the debates will give JK a chance to expose these dirty shitz we have running our nation. I expect Bush to use "extreme" at least once...ANYONE is extreme who doesn't kowtow to their archaic wise-use pablum.
