OBERMANN is doing the recant of Lieutenant Elliot!!!
He says Elliot's FAMILY says he stands by his affidavit and the Boston Globe (?) mis-quoted him? Obermann is hitting Elliot hard.

10. 527's are 3rd party groups like Moveon.org
and vetsAgainstKerry.org. They can LEGALLY raise funds and use them for political purposes just so they don't associate themselves with a particular campaign. Moveon.org or Moveon Pac will be running ads against Bush to pick up the slack in the the Kerry funds. Kerry can't raise anymore money now that he's been nominated. Bush can continue to raise funds until he's nominated....which gives the repubs an extra month or a little longer in raising campaign funds. Like they don't already have enough money. Greedy bastards.

13. It's what folks call a loop hole
in the CAmpaign financing law. It allows an organization to run an ad that is not approved by a candidate but supports an issue particularly favorable to one candidate. Many are negative against a particular candidate. They don't specifically endorse a candidate, but you can tell who they are for. Moveon.org is a 527 organization as is the dimboat ad sponsors.

the Navy should do the same .

a reason to lie like a promise of money for doing this. Why would he have such divergent statements?

11. I have been very optimistic about this election so far
and love my electoral map analysis...but face it.... this smear will stick like glue to Kerry now forever. Reminds me of the "invent the internet", "Love Canal" etc stuff from 2000. I simply cannot believe that there is now an ad on TV with some random bozos claiming the leading Presidential candidate was LYING about his service record... and then it gets rebroadcast around the world for free as commentators parse it as "well...what about this?". The damage is in the lie...the sheer affrontery which now will be taken as gospel by millions and millions of Americans through the election and the Kerry presidency. Completely disgusting. This needs to be answered more forcefully than we can imagine...these people need to be exposed and shredded. But I fear the damage is done and no one can put the lid back on this particular Pandora's box. Sorry... I really am an optimist but this is a particularly gruesome and serious political hit.

Tom Oliphant of the Boston Globe, (who has not only known Kerry, but reported on him for 30 years) was adamant that this was a no winner for the Repugs and that the same strategy had been tried for 20 years against Kerry and ALWAYS backfired. He went on to say that the longer it stays out there, the more the public becomes antagonized at the dirty politics, becomes acutely aware of the fact that Kerry really was a Vietnam War hero (in contrast to Bush*), and also the military becomes antagonized at the blatant attack against one of their own (regardless of politics, the military brotherhood having fought together does not turn against each other).

14. Bullshit
this sort of thing is just the thing to talk about with everyone you know to show just what low-down scum the repukes are.

they're whining because Kerry told the truth about a war that some assholes still cannot admit was a mistake, just as other assholes will be declaring that Iraq was not wrong forty years from now.

it's too bad Americans are so stupid about the war crimes that have been committed in their names, the way the Repukes love dictators like Pinochet (hey, Dubya's uncle is still laundering money for that war criminal), love to snuggle up to people like Klaus Barbie, the butcher of Lyon, whom they used to "train a new SS" in Bolivia when Reagan was coddling cocaine drug lords.

Nancy should have been telling Ronnie and Poppy to "just say no" to financining drug lords and assisting in smuggling drugs into the U.S. (as in the frogman scandal off the CA coast.)

It's time for some truth in this country.

It's time for Americans to grow up and see the scumbags who are ruining democracy.

15. ''It's time for some truth in this country. ''
amen raindog

people could do worse than starting with Lost History, by Robert Parry

what's happening to Kerry now is DIFFERENT than what Oliphant is talking about

it's MUCH more concentrated, with heavy funding, AND a NATIONAL media which is only too happy to slant things HEAVILY toward the ones who are MAKING THE CHARGES

they are automatically assuming that EVERY CHARGE is TRUE, rather than FORCING these monstrosities to PROVE their phony charges

they say they have AFFIDAVITS!!!!!!

so fricking WHAT? they're pieces of PAPER with names on them?

are they legal documents, carrying the penalty of PERJURY?

anybody ask them THAT, for starters?

huh?

17. bravo!
I agree. at times I feel like republithugs have a part of their brain missing, that which operates in a normal person as a bullsh!t detector. They even believe their OWN lies, even while they know they are lying....some messed up mojo. If Karma exists at all, I would not like to be in their togas come the end.

18. Ask Republicans if Bush is Brave enough to stand with McCain
Is Bush brave enough to stand with McCain and repudiate the ads and smear campaign? Not so far.

Ask them. Ask military members.
