Lies needing to be debunked

KERRY NO HERO

I had hoped that John Kerry would keep his military record low key and present only his record of accomplishments during the past 30 years at the Democratic National Convention.

But he chose to present himself as a war hero in his acceptance speech.

Kerry's 4 1/2-month tour of duty in Vietnam was overshadowed by his turncoat 18-month performance in the United States during 1971-1972. He joined the ranks of "Hanoi Jane" Fonda to protest the war efforts.

1. Wait a minute!
I've read that exact same "letter" someplace else, at least two weeks ago.

If I can find a link, I'll post it.

5. I don't get it
this editorial simply says that Kerry was wrong to oppose the Vietnam War. There are some lies and misrepresentations of his actual testimony, but they are hardly worth correcting, as I don't think the Republicans are going to win the election by arguing that the Vietnam War was not a mistake. The more Vietnam is talked about, the more the obvious parallels with Iraq will resonate, and it spells nothing but doom for Bush.

6. I would been quite happy
to not have to be fighting the Vietnam War over and over again during every election. It was a devisive time in our history and it took years for the wounds to heal.

Unfortunately, the Republicans started all this with their endless yammering about Clinton being a draft dodger. So what goes around comes around, I guess.

The anti-war movement drew far more folks than just Jane Fonda and John Kerry. The writer may be of the opinion that Kerry is some kind of turn coat but if anyone had the right to protest that war, Kerry did. He was there. Like it or not, we had free speech back then. Like it or not we still do.

I would rather make this election about what Bush is doing now rather than what John Kerry did 35 years ago. Perhaps this is all that is left for the Bush supporters to do - voice opinions based on actions during a war long over. I'm not buying it. I care about now. I care about the current mess we're in. I have no interest in rewarding Bush with a second term after he has messed up this one so much.

If this writer can't focus on today and the future then I pity him.
