Will any high profile Repub flip to Kerry?
I'm just wondering (probably after their convention), if any high profile republican will publically flip for our side (like Zell Miller and St.Paul mayor did)?
Any nominations?

2. Nancy Reagan, perhaps
Despite what her staffer "Drake" has to say, I'm pretty sure she never liked the bushes, and wouldn't mind seeing them gone in January.

5. McCain is hard to read...
He put it to bush* to denounce the Swiftboat ad and those behind it. (which would likely mean going back and returning money from those contributors who are bankrolling its airtime.)

bush* has ignored McCain's suggestion. It wouldn't surprise me if McCain resigned from his role as AZ chairman for chimpy's reelection. But I wouldn't count on him going Dem.

my $.02.

14. I saw the clip of McCain
I thought he was pretty mild against Bush himself. He said he hoped the White House would condem the ad after being asked by the reporter. Now he did put it to the ad - but not really to Bush himself.

15. McCain will never switch
The wildcard is his Senate election this year. Does he piss off the hard right, or play the maverick card?

Kerry as President would benefit McCain a bit more, IMO, since they are good friends, and it could open up some bipartisan activity in the senate. I doubt he would support Kerry publically. But he could distance himself somewhat from Bush.

Rove must have something on him. Can't really see why he sticks with Bush.

18. "Marker malfunction," yes. Public endorsement, not on your life.
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 09:52 AM by blondeatlast
I'm a Zonie who's watched McCain for many moons. It won't happen because in this state it would be political suicide.

He's still angling for that GOP nomination for Prez one of these old days, I guarantee it. However, he might have a little

"marker malfunction"

in the voting booth that it would be too much trouble to correct, if you catch my drift.

Edit: I'm serious--I suspect that McCain will actually vote for Kerry, but he doesn't DARE reveal it.

25. With all due respect to both you and Mr. McCain, he really isn't.
While I believe he has the country's best interest at heart (I really do, I've met him, and while I disagree with him often, he is very thoughtful and reasoned)), he is very much a product of political ambition.

Keeping that in mind, you can understand why is is often very conflicted, but in the end, political ambition will win out every time.

8. No. Way too dangerous for the politician and his or her family.
Bush is the most vindictive little shit ever to hold public office. And the Reich wing is insane and loves nothing more than viciously attacking anyone who disagrees with them.

9. Not likely...
It appears there is a growing trend in the U.S. toward the Republican Party. One thing Kerry has to do immediately is get some African Americans appointed to high profile positions in his team. He is touring through the U.S. with a lilly white entourage. Granted the Sharptons and others show up at some high profile rallies, but he needs to live, breath, eat, drink, and sleep with more than a white group

11. Hahahahahaha - whatever !
In the America I live in, intelligent people have seen the true nature of the republican party as a propaganda machine for the wealthy. I was shocked when the republicans had no one better than idiot Bush to be their lead puppet. I knew it meant the meltdown of the republican party, and it is happening.
Maybe you should go to the C-Span website and watch Bush's speech yesterday. It will show you how much minorities think about Bush and his token cabinet members. LMAO.

17. Sen. Lincoln Chaffee could possibly go Independent at some point
I don't know enough about the Republican House Reps to name any possible moderate defectors. Look to the North East and/or Rust Belt though if there is any hope of that.
