The jobs report could be *'s undoing!
I've been on vacation for the past week with no access to DU, so forgive me if I'm being redundant. I've been gambling, ice skating, eating like a pig, watching beautiful lake sunsets, drinking, and generally having fun. The idea was not to partake of politics for a few days. However, yesterday(Friday), the jobs report came out and I did see some coverage of it on MSNBC and CNN in the hotel room.

The attitude of the mediawhores struck me as ridiculous. They are either Oscar worthy actors or complete idiots , but they appeared to be SHOCKED that the chimp's prediction of jobs creation hadn't materialized. They looked like they knew that this was very bad news for their little dumbya, and they weren't happy. The coverage was serious, and made it clear that the administration had not lived up to its promises to create jobs for the American people. I saw Carol Lin do reasonably balanced interview with John Snow, in which she she actually asked him some challenging questions instead of just reading off the Rove talking points.

Could this be it? A bad jobs report this close to the elections makes *'s "turn the corner" routine impossible to maintain. I don't believe that they can spin this. I think it's huge, and I hope our side has the brains to use it.

1. Last three job reports have later been revised DOWNWARD
Which direction do you think this one will go?

My guess is that there will be a revision to net LOSS of jobs last month....

3. That's definitely
been the trend, and I can easily see it happening again this time. If it hits the news closer to the election that we actually had a job loss, some people may be forced to wake up.

2. I believe those numbers were for July, correct?
If so, you can probably expect at least another dismal month in August (my guess). To me, August always appeared to be a big vacation month, much like December, so I can't see how production would increase, especially in this economy.

So, that gives us only September and October really to sway the vote. I think you are correct, July's report would have been key.

6. Next Jobs report Sept. 3. Repub convention ends Sept. 2. Labor Day Sept. 6
Be prepared for either a bad report or a good report. Let's hope for a good report, for the sake of the country and the workers. Bush can and will be defeated, either way.

4. The only good thing about this is that Shrubby will be fired.
Otherwise, it sucks. We're in another Bush-related recession.

5. Shrubby will be fired
Those words are poetry to my ears! This report merely confirms what most of us at DU already knew. There is no recovery, no "corner turned", nothing. We got NOTHING in return for giving tax breaks to millionaires, and shifting the tax burden to workers. Will we have the guts to use this information to really make this administration squirm?
