My city/area might finally be represented by a Democrat again
I am in Texas and we have had the same state representative (Austin, not DC) for almost 12 years. He is HORRID. He's a republican and is in the back pockets of a lot of corporations, including heavy polluters. He obviously doesn't give a shit about public schools, our air or water, the poor in our area, good health care, nothing.

Oh wait he does care about limiting poor womens' access to health care, birth control, abortion. He does care about denying gays any kind of rights. And he cares about getting re-elected.

Then along comes this Democrat lady who is WONDERFUL. She has been working this area so hard and it is really paying off. She was my guest at our homeowner's association pool party last night and she worked the crowd like it was no one's business. I was quite impressed, I could never do that.

The cool thing was how many people expressed disgust with our current rep and showed a LOT of interest in her. Even people who vote republican. She's also raised MORE MONEY than him! In Texas! Wooo-hooo!

So, it's only of interest probably to me and mine, not a national issue, but I am very excited thinking my city could actually have decent representation in Austin for the first time in well over a decade!

(P.S. This guy got Christian Lawmaker of the Year. Just moved in with his 26 year old girlfriend, who is pregnant, but he is still married to his 53 year old wife. How does that work?????)

9. Thanks!
We're working hard!

My city/area is quite blue-collar, working class and really Dem at its core, but of course a lot of freepers, too (but they seem to be a small minority).

Don't know how he even got elected to office, but the people of this area seem to feel he isn't doing much good for them.

2. If I had money, I'd give her a donation!
She sounds great, and I hope that people there are smart enough to vote in their best interest for a change, and get her in office.

I also hope that you will get out there and do what you can for her, and enlist the others in your homeowners group to do the same.

I've been working my butt off for a terrific Senatorial candidate, but people are too scared and too indifferent to see what an opportunity they have right now to get great representation. I'm so completely discouraged. Wish I was in your shoes.....

5. Don't be discouraged
just keep working your ass off! Good job!

I have given her money, I have canvassed, phonebanked, handed out literature ALL over the place, I have her bumper sticker on my car, two signs of hers in my yard, I take her to places like that pool party so she can get more exposure, etc. I go to her meetups and all her other functions and bring different people every time.

I've gotten her a lot of votes! My daughter has bad asthma and respiratory allergies and the air in the Dallas area has gotten worse and worse (we are at red level ozone today, which means my daughter cannot go outside at ALL today) and we need someone who is not in the back pocket of polluting industries!!!!!

The woman I am supporting is a big clean air clean water advocate.

4. Get ready for dems to kick ass in Texas!
this year we are running candidates that are about as liberal as what you would see in the North East. No more republican-lite bull shit.

It's going to bring out the vote royally, and when Texas picks up a ton of seats the rest of the party in the other 49 states will take notice and start running similar candidates.

I have a VERY good feeling about this year. The candidates are the most progressive I have seen in this state for a very long time. The base is VERY excited, and people looking for an end to republican shit will NOT be thinking the democratic party is the same as the republican party this year.

6. ALRIGHT!
are you in TX too?

I think you are right. You have to be tough to be a Dem/liberal in TX and we're getting sick of the bullshit and the gloves are coming off.

I just SOOO BADLY want fantastic, fighting Dems to replace our Senators!!! They SUCK!!!!

It's Orwell ..2004..twenty years later.

I believe this is of interest to people from all over because it's showing signs of democracy and we love it.

8. Good
I did post it here as inspiration for DUers. I was absolutely AMAZED at the level of interest and support people were giving her last night. They didn't know anyone running for office was going to be there, and they were asking her a million questions.

Our guy's time is about up, thank goodness. He knows it, too, he's sending out desperate letters for donations to his fat-cat buddies. This lady running against him has a mole who is sending her copies of these letters!

I'm telling you she is KICK ASS. Anyone ever just hear or talk to a person running for office and think "Damn, they are going to go far."

13. Anybody else here remember how they used to call Tom DeLay
"Hot Tub Tom" when he was in the legislature here in Austin?

He was welll-known to always have a couple of babes in his apartment hot tub with him.

Oh, and he had a wifey back home, too.
