Photos from Las Vegas NM whistle stop--lots!
The complete album of about 80 photos is here. Click on the slideshow for a fun trip!

I only got this camera a week ago, but I thought it did a great job under very difficult circumstances. I was on the top row of a bleacher that kept bouncing up and down, and as darkness came on, it was really hard to get a stable shot! But in some ways the excitement comes across even better that way. :) It was great fun, nearly 8k people there from all over northern New Mexico, which is a huge turnout for a rural area.

A couple of previews:

Pics of Vanessa and probably Cate in the album too. Tell me if I'm wrong!

1. Hey! I have the same pics (from a slightly different angle)
Were you as impressed with it as I was? Just a stupendous turnout. The town of Las Vegas only has 15,000 people in it, and 9,000 came from all over to this event. I thought that no one cared whether or not an out-of-towner parked in front of their house was great.

4. Yes, Snoggera!
I read your report, excellent summary. I was particularly impressed with Edwards; he's a dynamite speaker. I hadn't heard him before.

Did you catch the name of the girl who sang? I'd like to put her name in the album.

I was on the middle bleachers (lol, some teens got up there and they made them get down, said "This is only for older people"--so I sat there trying to look old, and apparently succeeded. ;))

I covet one of those t-shirts!

6. I can't remember her name, but wasn't she something to behold?
You have got some great pictures in that album! I've got it bookmarked, so don't make'em disappear or nothin' any time soon!

My emotions were all over the place yesterday. It's still sinking in. I know it probably sounds at least slightly goofy, but it is true. Going to an event like this is one of the most inspiring things that could happen to a person.

There were a couple of Bush supporters outside, but as I said in the other thread, by the time they came around, no way I was gonna leave the line and go get photos of them.

I think they were local anyway. Their signs said Viva Bush.

9. What wonderful pics! Thanks for posting these!
I live in Utah where Kerry is polling worse than any other state (grrr). I can't blame them for not coming here but I would LOVE to see them.

Does anyone know where I can find a schedule of appearances?

11. Actually Alex, not Vanessa
Those "Vanessa?" pics are actually of Kerry's older daughter Alexandra. The brunette. Vanessa is blonde.

12. You're right, I'll correct it
I looked on the site, and the only pic I found of either daughter was for the video of Vanessa, and it looked like her hair was dark!

I'll edit the photo names, thanks

13. Awesome pics
How long were they there for?

I notice it's after dark in the later pics,

Were there any protesters?

And I love Las Vegas, NM - it truly is the 'real' New Mexico - so to speak.

16. Little over an hour, I think
I think they arrived about 7:30, and it was 9 when I got back to my car, so I think maybe hour and a quarter.

No protesters that I saw within the train depot area, no hecklers. There were tickets but you got thru security w/o showing them, so anyone really could have gone in if they wanted to. However, no signs were allowed to be brought in; they distributed them inside.

There were 4-5 Bush supporters w/signs outside but I didn't really see them except from a distance.

Another thing Las Vegas was celebrating was the arrival home on the same day of the 720th National Guard, all got back safely, yay! Big big day for Las Vegas.

Still trying to find out the name of the female singer in the pic below. Want her phone number too? ;)

17. She's beautiful
I like how she's illuminated, her eyes are closed, and her hair is in the breeze.

Then there's all the people in the shadows below her, their heads all pointed in different directions.

I also notice what I think is one of those newly returned National Guardsmen in the picture.

18. Hey, thanks a lot for the pictures!
You are awesome for posting these and the link to your pic blog. I wish Kerry would come here, but this is south Texas and the rw'ers would likely stage a huge protest. I don't blame Kerry for not wasting time on these sheeple.

22. Fab photos!! Lucky you!!! A question.. HELP!
HOW is everyone finding out about the campaign stops??? I know that they are finishing up in the Pacific Northwest, I heard Oregon Coast (which makes me think Florence, because that's where Kerry's crewmate lives). I am signed up as a Kerry volunteer, etc.. but I still cannot figure out how to find them!!!!! help! :hi:

24. Try your local democratic party
Call or go into the local campaign office. They should know, and if they don't get the number of the state campaign office.

There was also a good deal of publicity in the papers here in the two-three days before the stop here.
