"Bush about fear; Kerry about hope" - Excellent LTTE
Just wanted to share this most excellent and concise reasoning in our local paper today about the election and the candidates. This woman says it all. This is from the Appleton, WI Post-Crescent

BUSH ABOUT FEAR; KERRY ABOUT HOPE

I hear people pondering what each presidential candidate stands for, but it seems so clear and simple to me. George W. Bush stands for fear. John Kerry stands for hope. These are both four-letter words, but they generate such different emotions. One drowns me with darkness and despair. The other fills me with optimism and strength.

Ever since 9-11, Bush has insisted that we be afraid: fear another attack, fear weapons of mass destruction, fear Saddam Hussein, fear evil.

Mr. President, I’ve gotten your message. And I am afraid. But I’m afraid of the things you don’t want me to think about. I’m afraid that global warming is harming our planet. I’m afraid that you’ve taken the country to the wrong war and it will take too long to correct your mistakes. I’m afraid that if you don’t insist today on a long-term policy of energy independence, we will be so sorry in the near future.

But I reject your message of fear.

What I want now, more than ever, is to hear messages of hope. I want to believe in possibilities. Kerry wants to restore respect for America. He wants to strengthen the country on more levels than just militarily. He wants to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, making us safer. He wants a future with less disease and suffering because, through stem cell research, we can finally hope to find cures for the devastating illnesses that too many of us witness too often.

I don’t know if it all can be done, but I’d much rather give hope a chance than live the next four years in darkness and fear.

Ellen Kunz,

Neenah
