Laura Bush , believer in SKY GOD, comes out against myths.
That's so ridiculous," Laura Bush said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It's one of the myths that start during a campaign."

3. That stem cell research will help cure diseases.
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 05:15 PM by MikeG
"We don't even know that stem cell research will provide cures for anything — much less that it's very close" to yielding major advances, Bush said.

4. I sorta figured that. But I didn't know that myth existed.
I know that stem-cell advocates think that it's possible that some process can be made, but I don't remember anybody promising quick results. The point is that we will never know if it's not researched.

See how they lie? They did the same thing with the Kerry "bump." Nobody said they would be huge - they couldn't be this time because many people have made up their minds so early this time. But rightwingers predicted one so they could say there wasn't one. Same thing here. Nobody is saying that there are any guarantees or that any progress will be made next week. But when Kerry is elected, they'll say after about a year, "Look! No diseases cured yet! We must stop this research because it isn't producing anything but dead fetuses!" or some such bullshit.

7. Right -- one myth is that anybody expects quick results
but another is that it's about "human cloning" as in cloning replicas of ourselves -- not just organs, but whole beings. They banter about it as if that were what stem-cell research is all about.

(And who was it on TV a month or so ago, saying "There's no evidence that injecting those stem cells into somebody's brain will cure Alzheimer's!"? Some rightwing crazy, but I forgot who.)
