Arizona will go blue!
Just got back from a Democratic Party volunteer orientation meeting. Nearly 100 people there, many who have never worked in a campaign before, and a few that voted for * in 2000. They hold these volunteer orientations every week. The Party is incredibly organized here.

One thing I did not know was that Gore did not go once to AZ yet only lost by a few % points. This time Kerry will be constantly visiting the state and also the demographics of the state have changed with migration and immigration, which bodes well for Dems.

Arizona at the very least will be a dogfight. I was very pessemistic about our chances here, but now I believe!

2. That would be so cool!
The Best! Afterall, you have a Dem Gov now. I wish Kerry/Edwards could visit all the states between now and Nov. Why not?

4. I really believe it--those he's definitely liberal, Kerry appeals to
the Goldwater types--keep the government out of our biz, strong foreign relations, etc.

I've lived here most of my life, and I believe this is our year!

8. AZ - Another State for Wes to Help Out
He's popular in the SW states, lots of retired military there and he was endorsed by The Native Times during the primary. Native Americans love him.

9. I BELIEVE I BELIEVE!!
Testify!

Hell, AZ went with Clinton in '96, and we have a solid Dem governor.

This state is OURS. I made sure of that last night. :-)

11. Clinton carried Arizona with 47% of the vote
I seriously doubt that 47% would be good enough for Kerry this time around.

Sorry, but you are seriously deluding yourself if you think Kerry has Arizona in the bag. Is it winnable? Yes, if Bush's approval ratings don't rebound and if there's a large Hispanic turnout. But to mistake the possibility of victory for the CERTAINTY of victory is downright foolish.

12. Did I say he had it in the bag?

I just think it's a good possibility. It is just like you to read too much into my posts, but hey, I live in AZ - so what the fuck do you know?

And why didn't you enlist? I thought you were over in Iraq right now fightin' and killin'... Your hard-on for that war is probably throbbing more than ever.

And... you deluded yourself buying into Bush's rationale for the war. We all remember. We know who you are, baby.

10. Gore may not have visited AZ, but neither did Bush
Sorry, but this argument that Gore lost Arizona simply because he never seriously contested it is seriously flawed, because it ignores the obvious reaction on the part of the Bush campaign. If Gore had made a serious play for Arizona, the Bush campaign would no doubt have responded in kind. I suspect that in the end, Bush would have would, perhaps not by a huge margin, but he would have won nonetheless.

17. Sorry but Ed Rendell was here in Az for the Governors conference
and spoke about the lack of effort, against his wishes as Party chair, that went into AZ in 2000 and he stated that it is his belief that had Gore and Clinton(he wanted Clinton to campaign in Az)devoted time to AZ ,the Dems would have won the electoral college. I think his opinion is more informed than any of the rest of us!

18. Arizona Will Go Blue
Sure, we have to work for it and we are doing that. Bush* is also helping out a lot by being such a stubborn idiot with little understanding of the words that spew from his mouth. The botching of the sovereignty question was a hilarious killer for many out here.

Things have really changed here since 2000, even in metro Phoenix. Janet Napolitano has to be given many kudos for leading us to this change in perception, among independents in particular, that Democrats can and do provide intelligent, common sense leadership. We are no longer regarded as loony demons here. This woman enjoys hard earned wide spread respect - even deep into the conservative, grew up on Goldwater, Republican "base." This WILL benefit Kerry.

Many Repubs one meets in daily life are so embarrassed by BushCo and cowed by Napolitano's successes they cannot even look you in the eye. I am really enjoying the attitude change and taking advantage of the new freedom to freely bash BushCo for their incompetence and crimes anywhere, anytime, with anyone.

The die hard radical righties, and we do have a lot of them, simply cannot find any words to defend the indefensible. It will likely be close, but we will take Arizona.

14. Do whatever you can to
get the Hispanics out! They want and deserve to participate in our democracy. We are facing similar challenges in California. We make sure that we have plenty of Spanish speaking volunteers (not hard to find here, luckily). Seriously, they could be the key. I would concentrate a huge amount of my resources into getting the Hispanic vote out. I realize that they won't all vote for Kerry, but the majority will. They know their own best interests, just like African Americans do. Great work. Glad to hear about your success, and thanks for volunteering!:toast:
