Neo-Con Troubles
My next door neighbors are insane neo-conservatives. They are the craziest right-wingers I've ever seen. I just avoid political discussions with them because you can never get through to them. They are so delusional and in denial.

Here are some of their ideals:

Drilling in the Alaskan reserve will help the environment and solve all of America's oil problems for a hundred years

Abortion is killing off the human race

Homosexuality is destroying the world

The government should pull all funding of programs to help fight AIDS, Parkinson's, Cancer, and all life-threatening diseases.

The courts should use the ten commandments to judge cases.

George W. Bush is a man of god who has never told a lie or done any wrong in his life.

I'm going insane over here! Any advice?

Move or burn their house down with them in it.
I don't normally advocate violence, but in this instance, there are no alternatives.

The reason I ask is putting pro Kerry signs on your lawn is fine of course, but if these people are really wacko do you think they'd vandalize your house or anything? If so I'd be careful.

12. I have a hard time keeping my AMERICANS for PEACE sign up
I think I know who is doing it - but this has been going on for almost a year and a half. Its kind of a game now - but I am amazed at the temerity of someone who comes into my yard to take down a sign that offends.

God knows what will happen to a Kerry sign - and I am in a liberal Austin neighborhood.

you can't do anything in my opinion..they are so MIS INFORMED and so stuck on their thoughts--

the problem I have with the "pro lifers" is that they think this war was necessary...even as we lose lives everyday...for someone who values life...it seems kinda...I don't know hypocritical to think that the war is a just war NOW knowing it was an unnecessary war...

sorry..but I would just ignroe the fools!

14. I usually just laugh at them
but I'm losing my patience.

They are extremely pro-life and have all these crazy bumper sticker on their car, like "You Can't Be Both Catholic and Pro-Abortion" and these big pictures of Jesus and Mary then a big Tim Murphy for Congress sticker.

If they're "pro-life" then I don't see why they don't care that nearly a thousand troops have died in Iraq.

10. Hold huge pagan rituals in your backyard.
Nudity, blood sacrifice, the works. Cap it off with a screaming, writhing orgy involving rutabagas and stone crabs. The next day, when they complain, pretend you have no idea what they are talking about, then proceed to edge your lawn in a diaper.

17. Their views are religions in nature
based on faith and not on facts. Do not try to engage in conversation with you. It's like hitting a brick wall.

I think my religious views are the most reasoned around. In my youth I tried to engage people of other religious views in conversation. It caused me more frustration than them.

Try to be a good example, try to find a way to relate to these people without any mention of politics (not sure you can, but worth a try). If they can come to see you as a decent human being it may temper their views of us. They did this in Europe during the 60s. The governments sponsored bridge clubs in several (all?) the countries as a way of bringing people together on neutral ground and to try and bridge the generation gap that raged then. They seem a much less divided populace than we do. The clubs are still going strong.

21. Address them point by point...
1. According to the Bush Admin's OWN Energy Commission, the best, most favorable analysis of the oil beneath the surface in the Alaskan reserve will be empty in TWO YEARS if we were to drill for it. And that's the best estimate. It doesn't solve anything.

2. I think they are grossly overstating the number of abortions performed, but I would point out that the planet is over populated as it is.

3. Nice try, we fell for that one with Saddam. Homosexuals DO NOT POSSESS WMD!! What someone else does in their personal life is not your business, and it does not affect you or the world.

4. If that's what they believe, then I hope they, or a loved one, is soon diagnosed with AIDS, Parkinsons, Cancer, or any other life-threatening disease.

5. Then I would point out to them that homosexual acts are then completely legal -- unless it's with your neighbor. Also, the death penalty is off the table.

6. Georgie Bush is not a man of God, he is a politician looking for the votes of worshippers. Georgis once said he reads the bible everyday. Yet, when asked about the particular passage he read one day, he could not answer. He doesn't read anything, remember? And he was a coke user an alcholic a failed businessman, and a liar. He lied about his DUI; he lied when he said he supported the states rights to decide if same-sex marriages were legal; and he lied about the connections between Saddam and 9/11 and about his WMD program.

25. Thanks, but
Facts just don't get through to them, though.

They tell lies to try to back themselves up.

They say, by drilling in Alaska the oil will melt the snow and make plants grow so it will help the environment.

And then they say the oil there will bring gas prices down to 65 cents a gallon.

They say that researchers fighting AIDS, and Parkinson's are purposely taking long because of all the money they get from the government.

They quote parts of bible that talk about homosexuality as sinful. Yet, the same part of the bible says there's nothing wrong with slavery.

They say that more babies have been aborted than people lost in all wars throughout history.

They constantly complain about the media talking about soldiers dying and say that they shouldn't say anything at all. Sounds like fascism.

I'm so sick of it.

24. Unreasonable people are stimulated by opposition.
It would be impossible to listen intently and gently steer them back on course. A bulldozer with several hundred tons of concrete and barbed wire may be the most practical solution.

But, if you insist on trying to help the insane, the first step would be to get them to turn off that vile christian talk radio. One demerit would be awarded for every second spent listening to the likes of limbaugh. More than three demerits per week, and your case should be considered hopeless.

They talk and rant like that to gain acceptance. They are terrified of being attacked by the same thugs they have come to adore. They spout that crap so it will always be others who are burned at the stake as they are in like flint with the perps. It pays to brown-nose the one wearing the "special" hat who possesses the power to select the next human sacrifice at the alter. Technically their psychosis would probably be considered a variant of the battered wife syndrome.

No demon radio and a fresh new crowd to circulate in would be their only hope. Why not fix up the spare room just for them?

29. Put their names on every progressive mailing list that you can find.
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 12:17 PM by demwing2
Especially the most lefty groups. Concentrate on gay and lesbian support groups, environmental groups, and Planned Parenthood.

If you have a little cash to burn, send each of those groups $1 in the names of your neighbors. They will then be deluged with "Thanks for your donation" letters, and the groups will sell their address to other progressive mailing lists. The fun will never stop!

You'll never, ever, ever change the hearts and minds of these people, but by all means, I encourage you to irritate the fuck out of them! Their rage will just make them act "progressively" loopier and loopier (Sorry about that pun)!

You can then rest in the hope that they'll have less of an affect on any fence sitters. Frothing mouthed loonies with conspiracy theories that "unknown agents are donating to the gays in my name" tend to be shunned.

BTW - do they have children? If so, maybe some of the progressive stuff they get in the mail will have a generational affect on the family's mindset. You know how teens love to rebell against the ideologies of their parents...

41. I work with a guy like you describe.
Up until a couple months ago we'd chat about politics, I found him mildly amusing. Black helicopters, End-times kind of guy. But he got really weird a couple months ago and I just quit talking to him, I'll say hi and chat about the weather, but the second he mentions anything near political I walk away. It really does cut down on the aggravation.

However, 2 weeks ago I finally got my Kerry bumper stickers. Since then I've been making it a point to park right next to him. I think he's ready to blow, I've heard him bitching to people in his office about 'that damn librul computer tech.' Its wonderful.
