How Alan Keyes and DU can take back the House for Kerry/Edwards
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 09:48 AM by Walt Starr
It's pretty simple. Alan Keyes is currently polling at 28% to Barak Obama's 67%. The people he appeals to are the radically conservative base of the Republican Party. Illinois Republicans are, for the most part, moderate. To support this fact, look at Jim Edgar and Jim Thompson, two former Illinois governors who were both very moderate Republicans and both of whom have not endorsed Keyes.

This, coupled with the fact that Bush is not going to win Illinois, COULD result in a general Republican apathy to this election. This could open up all sorts of doors!

If Republicans stay home in droves, it could help our Democratic candidates going up against Republican incumbents in the House. But they need YOUR help. We need to donate to these candidates and we need to help spread word about these candidates to the rest of the Democratic blogs and web sites!

I'll start the ball rolling. Here are links to and a picture of the Democratic Candidate for the U.S. House from the Illinois Thirteenth Congressional District. Her name is Gloria Andersen and she's running aginst the incumbent, Judy Biggert. Ms. Biggert has pretty much been a rubber stamp for the Bush administration:

Gloria Andersen for Congress, Illinois Thirteenth Congressional District

Gloria Andersen for Congress, Please donate!

Illinois DUers, let's add those links and contact info! The sweetest victory I can imagine in Illinois is if we use Alan Keyes to take back the House!

Please keep this post kicked!

than there are Conservative Republicans. And the Conservatives were turning out any way! They are losing their Moderates!

21. I'm not agreeing
I think choosing Keyes was infinitely stupid, but such is the GOP. I hope it works to our advantage and helps us win the close seats they were afraid of losing.

I only included the ten districts where a Democrat is running against a Republican incumbent.

Right now in the state of Illinois, there is a single statewide office held by a Republican, the Treasurer, Judy Baar Topinka.

There is a Democratic majority in both the State Senate AND the General Assembly.

These ten seats are RIPE FOR THE PICKING!!!! There are only 19 Congressional Districts in the state of Illinois.

Here are ten candidate of whom five could probably win fairly easily if they have the funding.

For the most part the big name Republicans will be more difficult to defeat, but I know Gloria Andersen stands a good chance and there are many others in the field that stand a good chance.

Let's hear it, Illinois DUers! Is one of these challengers from your district and how well liked are the incumbents?

going to vote against that`s jerry mitchell..personally his office has done things for my family that we will always be greatful for. he`s done everything he possibly could to keep the steelmill going in sterling and has fought for the prison guards here in dixon. you`ll see alot of of pickup trucks with public and trade union stickers next to mitchells sticker. it`s been rumored that he grew up a democrat but to be elected he`d have to be a republican which makes sense around here..he`s pretty dam liberal for a republican and i am sure that the keyes shit burns his ass..BUT fat boy needs to go and it`s to bad zamora can`t do it..there just isn`t enough money to outspend fatboy and this band of creeps...

34. Alan Keyes = Carpetbagger
Keyes was on CNN this morning. He had criticized Hillary Clinton for running for the Senate in New York in 2000, saying that he would never do such a thing. When asked about that statement, Keyes said Hillary did it because she was looking to advance her political ambitions, whereas he was merely responding to an invitation to run in Illinois. An interesting distinction, showing that he is capable of justifying anything he wants to.

More interesting is his motivation. He has no chance of defeating Obama of course, but Keyes will get some publicity from his run. But his main reason is MONEY! When he ran for the Senate in Maryland, he skimmed off a lot of money donated to his campaign and paid himself a handsome salary! The Federal Elections Commission looked into this, but decided to let him get away with it. Now Keyes gets to do the same thing in Illinois. Let the Republicans contribute to his campaign if they want to, and let Keyes enrich himself at their expense!

IMO the democrats will do well in Illinois with this guy in the race, especially if the electorate wise up to him.

30. IL 15 has a GREAT Democratic candidate, Dr. David Gill!
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 05:56 PM by Padraig18

Dr. Gill is an emergency-room physician who is bright, articulate and VERY deep. He knows first-hand about the crisis in health care that is facing this country, and he also understands the problems faced by family farms, etc. . He is running against the neo-con incumbent, Tim "Atilla, the Ferret Face" Johnson, and he DESPERATELY needs your help.

Please help us elect a Congressman who is as good as the hard-working, decent people he wants to represent, and one who would whole-heartedly assist President Kerry in solving this nation's most pressing domestic problems.

Thank you!
