John Kerry To Speak At VFW Convention
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 10:55 AM by JI7
i love it that it is being held in Ohio. hopefully it will highlight Kerry's own service record, the lack of care and support veterans are getting currently in a swing state with similar problems for many who are not veterans also.

<Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry will address the annual convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Cincinnati next week, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Tuesday.

Edward Banas, the VFW's current commander, outlined veterans' concerns in his March testimony before a joint meeting of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs committees in Washington.

He said thousands of veterans had been waiting well over six months for basic health care appointments.

"Other veterans must wait over a year for specialized health care appointments," he told legislators. "There are millions of veterans who are completely excluded from the system because they make above a paltry income threshold."

The VFW was unhappy with the budget proposed by the Bush administration this year. It included increased co-payments and an enrollment fee the VFW said would force many out of the Veterans Administration health care system. >

3. hahha
one of the things i like about kerry and his policies on national security and foreign policy is that to make us stronger most of his ideas have to do with non military things. like providing education, working with other people and nations, making lives better for others through a better environment, jobs, pay etc.

when he was part of the vietnam vets against war group a lot of the things they did involved providing help for returning veterans since the government did not provide much. they also lobbied politicians like congress members to help pass better benefits.

4. really when he was called bushlite last night
someone complained about the 'reporting for duty', maybe he respects our military's past. What a shocker coming from a Navy vet.

5. Kerry should use this opportunity to....
.....explain that his old statements about war crimes and atrocities were not to characterize soldiers as baby killers, etc., but to show that the government was lying, mismanaging the war and abusing the troops. Then he could draw similar parallels to Iraq.

6. I expect alot of clarification for people during the debates
when it will be quite clear that Kerry disagreed with Bush's dishonest implementation of the IWR and other foreign policy and military issues.
