Cost of War versus Bush Tax cuts per citizen - WHY aren't Dems mentioning?
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 11:32 AM by jackstraw45
Half of Americans got LESS than $470 in the Bush tax cuts and half got more. (source: Factcheck.org)

As of right NOW, EVERY man, woman, & child's share of the war is over $432 (and counting) to an Iraq war that wasn't necessary. (source: costofwar.com & Census.gov)

The war COULD have been avoided. And even if sanctions were allowed to run their course and we still HAD to go to war, the US wouldn't be holding the ENITRE $130 billion bill.

Will the Democrats have the guts to point this out?

1. well, if they weren't for the war as well...
I guess Kerry may be argue that a well won war with a plan for peace would cost less

5. If. as Kerry has said time and time again...
The UN sanctions were allowed to run their course, and a TRUE international coalition was built, there's no WAY we're be paying the full bill alone.

This is NOT about Kerry.

KERRY did NOT bring us to war...George Bush did.

This is not a slam at you, just tired of every charge against Bush being deflected into a critique of Kerry.

3. But Bush has that one figured out--
he is borrowing both the tax cut and the war and dumping the cost on our kids in additional debt burdens. He didn't want to pay for either one. So it isn't like your tax cut is going to the war. Both your tax cut and the war are going to your kids.

4. Exactly....I know the tax cuts won't come due until Bush is on the Ranch
but it's a helpful illustration as to how MUCH this war is costing us and what a joke his campaign of "tax relief" really is.

6. Sunday NY times op ed
had a graphic of all the security related items we could have with the money spent on Iraq. It was good becasue it was something even the most defense oriented conservative could appreciate--even someone who likes defense and likes wars has to wonder if we couldn't do better than Bush policies.

7. Cost of war vs. spending on Homeland Security
I don't know the exact numbers, but I suspect that we are funneling a lot more money into Iraq than we are spending on improving Homeland Security.
