Poll question: Worse Than Nixon
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 01:45 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
With the politicization of the Central Intelligence Agency I am now convinced that Bush is worse than Nixon.....

The mendacity of him and his hirelings knows no bounds....

They have betrayed the public trust and shattered our alliances throughout the world.....

He is worse than Nixon......

Is Bush worse than Nixon?

Absolutely! Look at the widespread damage resulting fr Bush's policies,...
...not just in the US, but around the world! No comparison, in my view.

3. Nixon
while he may have been bad, was at least smart enough to understand what he was doing. Bush, on the other hand, is fucking clueless, and that makes him not only worse, but a hell of a lot scarier too.

If Nixon could have excised his demons he could have been a good president...

4. Uh,

Why was it the nomination of this partisan hack to CIA post that
"put you over the top" in determining that * is worse than Nixon.

I can think of SOOOO many other things that have come before.

7. Nixon killed a lot more people and sold out Taiwan to Mao.
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 12:58 PM by Zynx
I don't look upon the opening up with China as a positive thing. It is now starting to have very negative economic and security implications for the US. Nixon also killed a lot more people in Cambodia(600,000 with terror bombing) alone for no real military reason than Bush has ever killed. Give Bush a second term, and he may top Nixon in death toll, but as of yet, no.

8. Taiwan Is Still Independent
And playing China off Russia and vice versa was a prudent policy....

10. Taiwan no longer has a seat at the Security Council.
It was still morally dispicable to do it regardless. Mao was one of the most evil men of the 20th century and to be making deals with him is beneath contempt. In the long run, I think our decision to make deals with Communist China will come back to bite us.

22. Taiwan does not deserve a seat on the Security Council
There is no rational justification for Taiwan to have a seat on the Security Council.

Be realistic.

11. * is far worse, because he is in power *now* ....
This is a tough choice, since Nixon and * are the lowest of the low.

As horrible as Nixon was, at least there was a Democratic Congress to keep some of the checks and balances alive.

Although * and his right-wing team haven't yet killed as many people as Nixon did, they are seriously taking this country down a facist path, and they are committed to doing this over the long haul.

13. Truth in nightmare form! Nixon's inner circle was horrifying enough...
And if they indeed had a right-wing congress, well, there probably wouldn't even be a need for * today.

And I'd have long since been a citizen of New Zealand, England, or Canada.

16. Hell yes

Nixon signed several environmental laws including the Endangeared Species Act, a real testament to our moral compass. An idea we would protect that which had no voice or power?

It was a beautiful moment in the history of Republican politics...much like Teddy Roosevelt fighting for workers rights and against the rise of corporate oligarchs...

Much like Ike Eisenhower questioning the massive spending on military arsenal and how it would negatively affect our children's education...

Much like Abe Lincoln proclaiming freedom for black Americans.

Yes folks...the Republican Party wasn't always a cesspool, but they sure are now.

21. I was in law school in D.C. during Nixon's term
and I really hated him. I grew up in a Nixon-hating family.

But compared to Bush, Nixon is not lookin' quite so bad. He was a scary guy, but seems almost rational compared with Shrub.

P.S. One of my classmates was David Eisenhower - Nixon's son-in-law and Ike's grandson. I was very impressed by how graciously he withstood the enormous amount of crap thrown at him daily by other students and some professors during the height of the Watergate scandal. He was non-political then. I believe he is now an historian. I've seen him on C-span occasionally over the years.
