New Report: George Bush’s Failed Fiscal Policies

Washington, DC - The Kerry-Edwards campaign released a new report today outlining the ways George Bush’s fiscal policies have failed the American economy and American workers by providing ineffective, inefficient stimulus to help jumpstart job growth when our economy needed it most and dramatically increasing the deficit in the years ahead.

While President Bush may think the American economy has “turned the corner,” this report shows Bush’s policies have contributed to the worst jobs recovery since the Great Depression, the most dramatic fiscal deterioration on record and a loss of confidence in our economy and our ability to meet future challenges.

John Kerry and John Edwards know America can do better. They have a plan to create new, better-paying jobs in America and help strengthen and expand the middle class while restoring fiscal discipline to Washington, DC.

“George Bush says we should look at the results, and we agree,” said Kerry campaign spokesperson Chad Clanton. “We've lost over a million jobs and the deficit is out of control. That's not turning the corner, and those are not the results the optimistic American people will be satisfied with. America can do better, and that starts with electing a new president committed to creating jobs and fiscal responsibility.”

Over the past three years, what our economy needed was a serious plan to jumpstart job growth with short-term, high bang-for-the buck stimulus alongside a commitment to long-term fiscal discipline that would have maintained confidence in our economy and kept our promises to future generations. But as today’s report notes, the Bush administration got it completely backwards, stubbornly refusing to consider Democratic stimulus proposals and passing successive rounds of tax cuts explicitly designed to provide the least short-term stimulus while dramatically increasing the deficit in the years ahead.

John Kerry and John Edwards have consistently supported ambitious short-term stimulus to jumpstart job growth while controlling long-term costs, a plan outlined in their new book “Our Plan for America, Stronger at Home and Respected in the World.” This is part of their overall economic plan to create more incentives for jobs, restrain spiraling health and energy costs and invest in technology and education.
