1. I think it would be hilarious
If Obama continued with his campaign as if Keyes wasn't even there.

4. Keyes can't even pronounce Obamas first name.
Obama should set up a debate with the Libertarian candidate and say he will consider Keyes when he has learned about the issues concerning the citizens of Illinois.

5. Well, I'm kind of afraid of Keyes
In that, "Whoa, if that guy were ever taken seriously, he might be dangerous" sort of way.

6. Obama needs to explain the phrase...
"Talk to the hand" to Keyes. With great regularity and malice aforethought.

Edit: Why bother to explain it, though? Just keep repeating it every time Keyes opens his mouth!

8. Someone Give Alan Keyes A Permanent Microphone.
He'll bring down the entire Republican Party in Illinois all by himself.

Just let this ass-hole keep talking.

12. Obama should insist on debating Keyes... in Maryland.
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 06:27 PM by elperromagico
Give ol' Crazy Alan a little home field advantage. ;)

Obama could say something like, "Since Mr. Keyes was kind enough to move to Illinois to debate me on the issues, I think it's only fair for me to repay the favor." Something just dripping with sarcasm.

15. That is perfect!
You should e-mail this to his campaign staff. Seriously.

They more Keyes talks, the better for us. Can't wait to see how skewed the results are. They also didn't give people much of a reason to come out and vote. Hope that also works to our advantage.

I was aiming for humor.

First of all, greetings and salutations to all of you working on behalf of the State of Illinois' next United States Senator.

As I'm sure you know, Illinois' new Republican Golden Boy - Alan Keyes (?!?) - has had the monumental temerity to suggest that Mr. Obama lacks the confidence to debate him on the issues. This just cannot stand. It's a well-known political truism that, when your opponent is within 40 points of you in the latest poll, you can't let him question your confidence. That's the kind of blunder that could reduce your lead to 30 points... and what kind of mandate is that?

Therefore, it's my humble suggestion that Mr. Obama offer to debate Mr. Keyes... in Maryland. It seems only fair; after all, Mr. Keyes has traveled all this distance specifically to challenge Mr. Obama. Why not give the poor guy a little bit of home field advantage? He hasn't been doing that well since he narrowly lost the Republican presidential nomination to Bush by a razor-thin margin of eleven and a half million votes. And I'm sure losing that ambassadorship he never had in the first place was a crushing blow to his ego.

I realize that, for Mr. Obama, debating Mr. Keyes might be a little like a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Billy Barty - a funny but essentially pointless exercise - but I feel it's the least you can do for poor Mr. Keyes.

18. Keyes quote from further down the page
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 07:31 PM by sandraj
"I have not pretended to know the state of Illinois. And I'm not going to pretend to know it. I know a lot about the issues that confront people and affect the lives of people all over this country and also, of course, in Illinois. I have worked with people in Illinois on a lot of those issues. But when it comes to those things that are specific to the state in terms of background and personality and experience and all of that -- that's something I'm going to have to rely on others. I'm going to be learning -- "

So, explain again why you think you should be representing Illinois?
