And both met with and dealt with Ted Sampley on several occaisions.

Ted was nice enough to me--and I counted myself lucky on that. Because Ted Sampley is, to say the least, one strange guy...and one whose personality often borders on "psycho". True, given his antics and absurdities, I'm probably not telling my fellow DUers anything they didn't suspect already, but Ted viewed it as his life's calling to be both antagonistic--to all authority he didn't happen to agree with--and viley "on the edge".

He always dressed shabbily, and usually reaked of the inside of a seedy bar to go along with it; I'm not sure if this was just part of Ted's persona or if it was his own bizzare way of constantly reminding us of the plight of homeless vets; with Ted, one never really knew. Ted didn't really so much answer questions posed to him as throw them all back at the questioner, with lots of extra "spice" of his own provocative questions thrown in. Other Viet Nam vest in the area generally appreciated Ted's help for troubled vets, but often referred to him in the lyrics of that classic song, "One toak over the line". Ted liked to display his gun collection at his store; usually we all ended up being glad he wasn't in the mood for some target practice that day.:eyes:

Ted was proud of his reputation for causing trouble. "Somebody's got to do it, because nobody's answering our questions!", he'd often say.

I don't know about Ted; I was both surprised and very dismayed that a guy like him didn't enthusiastically support John McCain in 2000, instead of working against him. Also seems like so many Viet Nam vets I know who are similar in both dress and activist style to Ted are supporting John Kerry this time around. How could a guy like Ted Sampley support an AWOL jerk like Dub? It didn't add up. But, in a nutshell, that was Ted...a lot about him, and his assertions, just didn't add up.

he's a long distance trucker, as well..... former Ranger in Nam

and he HATES Kerry, for his testimony against the war

will never forgive him for that

my friend was talking about him the other night. he gets along with him, and they talk politics occasionally

the guy is the classic Tom Frank sort of voter: just scraping by, working class, semi-educated, HATES ''blacks, homos, beaners, etc.,'' pro-life, pro-Iraq war, hates liberals, welfare queens

you know the drill

when my friend asks him why he's FOR Bush, all he can answer is with negative references to the above miscreants

3. I have no doubt that's why most of these vets hooked up with the ....

anti-Kerry vets. It's the Kerry's testimony after the war. Which is why I'm surprised Kerry's surrogates decided to play ball with these guys. If they'd let the story run without the paranoia and legal eagles threatening to sue, the press wouldn't have had this much fun. This story should have been dead by now.

he accused John McCain of being KGB and assaulted one of McCain's aides, and also that he believes some conspiracy theory about a plot to assassinate some senators...

WAY out there.

I am not surprised that he is associated with the vets against Kerry, "swiftvets," etc.
