McCain will be hurt by distancing himself from Rev. Hagee
Edited on Fri May-23-08 11:41 AM by Quixote1818
McCain was in a lose, lose with Hagee. He was going to lose by staying connected to him and he loses by distancing himself from Hagee.

A mistake Democrats made in the past was not going after Bush's connection to the Religious Right and the statements they have made against other Religions. Bush was allowed to stay connected to these nut-cases and their supporters (a huge voting block). They loved the attention and came out to vote in record numbers. That is not going to happen with McCain because he is having to denounce the Religious Right. The key will be to get him to distance himself from Robertson and Dobson.

Not to mention, there is audio of McCain praising Hagee and other nut-cases. Ed Schultz was just playing them saying Antisemitic statements then playing McCain praising them. It was very effective in a Sean Hannity type of way.

1. My mind is goofy today
I just pictured McCain and Hagee having make-up sex next month when Johnny Mac decides he needs Hagee back. You know sort of like:

2. I can see that but surely there must be some level headed people
on the right who think that kind of talk is preposterouus. I mean, they may be about conservatism, "family values" etc. but blatant hate against a group of people? It would be very scary to me if they all turned on him because of his renunciation of that wackjob. Not that I don't like seeing McCain squirm or anything....

3. The "un-endorsement" was masterfully done
Hagee and The McCainchurian McCaindidate each repudiated the other. Then Hagee played the "McCain's bein' persecuted for my name's sake" martyr card. Meanwhile, in the pews, the faithful whisper "Yay-usssss!" and "Amen!" and "Tell it, Brother!" And they're still gonna vote for Bomber John.

As far as Hagee's meat-locker IQ'd followers and the rest of that ilk are concerned, it wasn't a repudiation. It's jes' a nuther case of the poor, poor persecuted krishchuns bein' tormented by the evil, mean, seculuar, librul meeja.

A beautiful con for those who appreciate a nicely turned dodge.
