Between Hucklebee's "joke" and Hillary's comment on RFK's assassination, what's going on?
It was just last week, I believe that Hucklebee made his unfortunate "joke" when hearing a loud noise backstage at an NRA convention(!) about somebody taking a shot at Obama and now with Hillary (again) making a comment that June is a pivotal month in nominating process because her husband didn't clinch his nomination until June, and...well, Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June, so anything apparently can happen.

Huckabee is a buffoon himself, but I thought Hillary was smarter than that. I got the idea that Hucklebee regretted almost right away what he said (apparently many at the NRA convention even groaned), but after seeing the tape of Hillary she just kept going on and I think she just got the idea that she said something stupid only afterward when somebody pointed it out to her. To be fair it wasn't only her the reporters who were interviewing her didn't apparently catch what she said either and didn't challenge her on it.

I actually think they both probably didn't really mean to say what they said but what is it about the Obama challenge that makes these two national figures allude to assassination.

1. It's amazing how all these white folks talk about Obama getting assasinated...
and yet none of them mean anything by it.

It kind of makes you wonder who the judges are.

I swear they're trying to get the crazies to act. Hillary must NOT be VP!

7. I actually think both Huck and Hill simply had a non-politically correct moment.
I understand that some would get upset hearing those comments, but in all fairness, I've read a LOT of posts here on DU from people who were afraid of Barack being physically harmed. Remember, he was the first candidate to get SS protection a LONG TIME AGO.

NOBODY wants anything to happen to him, but haven't we all THOUGHT about that risk?

11. I've been worried about Obama from day one and this kind of comment
has the potential to bring a nutball out of the closet. Doesn't help it's an area of the country known for white supremacist groups.

13. Dog-whistle politics
"Dog-whistle politics, also known as the use of code words, is a type of political campaigning or speechmaking employing coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has a different or more specific meaning for a targeted subgroup of the audience."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog-whistle_politics

They're speaking to the wackos. Mostly white Republican males with mullets who don't particularly like the idea of a black president.

15. Planting the seed of fear.
I don't think they are necessarily trying to instigate an assassination. But they are definitely trying to encourage the idea that this is a real danger. People might be less likely to vote for Obama if they have that fear in the back of their minds, as well as fear of the social unrest that might ensue if (God forbid) the worst did happen. It was before my time, but I'm sure many voters were alive to remember the riots in 1968 that happened around the assassinations.

It's akin to saying "McCain is old, he's had cancer, he could die." Even if someone liked McCain, that fear would be in their mind before they pulled the lever.

16. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. Play with fire, someone gets burned.
Fear, as a political tool, is deadly to human beings and other living things.

17. Hey, we grew up in America -- we know what's going on.
It was planted in our brains, and sometimes it bubbles out when our backs are to the wall.

We all have to fight against some aspects of it. But some seem to lose that fight just a bit too often.
