White House Backs Off Bush Sales Tax Quip
Yet another "slip of the tongue?"

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=544&ncid=544&e=2&u=/ap/20040811/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_sales_tax

WASHINGTON - Administration officials on Wednesday denied that President Bush is considering a national sales tax, a day after the Republican incumbent created a stir by calling such a tax "an interesting idea that we ought to explore seriously."

Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry seized on Bush's comments — made while the president was campaigning in Florida Tuesday — and suggested such a plan would create a new tax on working families.

"Families already squeezed by rising health care costs, gas costs and college costs would have to carry a whole new tax burden," Kerry said in a statement.

2. Bush Is A Fool

The tax would have to be set around 22% since that's the percentage of GDP that goes to funding the federal government...

That means you would have a 22% inflation rates the first year it kicked in.....

4. Good for Kerry being able to use
bush's tongue slippage against him.

No matter how many swifty boat liars they have..they can't keep up with bush's anti-midas touch in this election.

8. "QUIP"? What's up with that anyhow? Isn't a quip something funny?
Or clever? How can they be painting this as a quip rather than what it is, a waffling flip flop?

9. Flippity Floppity ...

The true shame is that the President's answer was also thoughtful and intelligent. He said that we should consider it.

I'm not saying I'm FOR a national sales tax ... I'm against it. But I think a thoughtful person should always be open to considering different ideas and options.

The GOP missed a RARE opportunity to portray Bush as a thoughtful person for once and accuse Kerry of being a reactionary.
