Barak Obama has already changed how politics is played...
Edited on Sun May-25-08 10:09 AM by Blarch
I will keep this short, just because I don't like reading long posts myself.

We have already seen many issues that Obama has taken the high road on ...letting them pass without the traditional campaign style attack that usually would follow.

And it works. I hope all campaign advisors and politicians are taking notes.

Go on, brush your shoulder off.

1. The netroots will be a part of every campaign from this point on ...
Obama has shown that you don't need official "public
financing" of elections to run a people-powered campaign.

17. 35,000 K-Street lobbyists versus millions of us at the netroots
I like our chances of bringing back a real democracy. The lobbyist industry had a free shot at Washington for decades. We finally have something bigger than all of them.

It will take a long time to educate the average American as to what has been going on while they have been sleepwalking. But we can add 10,000,000 informed and ACTIVE Americans every year. We can beat those bastards at their own game.

23. The K street lobbyists have grown in such great numbers
since Bush stole power. The good and bad ones seem to be the biggest employers in the country now. Everyday some lobbyist group is trying to save the forests, wild animals, open spaces, etc. They lobby for organic foods and safety. They lobby for rights and separation of church and state. Every institution in this country has been impacted by this gang of thieves. Every issue has their K street lobby group.

I just can't afford to keep sending money to DC for all of this. In the end little happens to solve any of it.

3. The net roots have changed nothing in this country.
Edited on Sun May-25-08 09:58 AM by mac2
They run every election on "change". I see little change but good speeches and little change after their fanny hits their seat in Congress.

I'm sick of giving them campaign money to see them drop out prior to Super Tuesday and the Iowa pep rally.

Dream is right. It's a nightmare.

6. I hope he does better than I expect.
I don't see much but the same old with Obama. He's been in office long enough to impeach, demand change, etc. but has not.

22. The Senate can demand hearings and then the House
impeachment. They are both responsible for the health and safety of our democracy.

8. What scares a lot of people, including yours truly, is that Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry also
let a lot of attacks pass without reply, and we see what happened then.

This is a serious issue. Although many think that this primary has been rough, the general election will make it look like Rainbow Brite's Happy Meadow by comparison. The attacks will be coming fast and furious, and ignoring them would be a disaster.

9. In this rfk case, its not that he let an attack pass, he just didnt attack like a mad dog...
when there was no cause for it.

12. Correct
Hillary hangs herself by continuing to try to pass the blame on to the public and the pundits. The more she talks, the less Obama needs to say.

11. It's no so much the attacks..
He responds well to attacks.

It's when his opponent makes a big gaffe ...he doesn't jump all over it.

And YES...Alot of attacks are silly ..and he does let them slide. There is a new sheriff in town.

19. He's also changed the way the money game is played so that
the power goes back to the people. I love it that Hillary's big money backers have been whining so much. It says that the influence of big donors has been reduced.

25. This is such a big laugh.
People can contribute money in organizations/churches/corporations to make it look like they are all small supporters. As usual there is a "loop hole".

My spouces corporation asked for fincancial contributions to their candidate for the good of the company.

20. Hahahahaha, it was bush's handlers got him doing the 'what me worry' thing...
very early on. It has been quite a sight watching so many people write so many things onto what Obama has offered as a 'blank screen' yet he's now being credited for what bush, rove & cheney have wrought: the candidate with better things to do.

"hope all campaign advisors and politicians are taking notes" = No one ever said Barack Obama wasn't a quick study.

Obama plays his cards right, though, and his supporters will have him having been the first to walk on the moon
