The Bush Campaign Is Scared And Flailing, And People Here Only See Doom
Bush is on the run, he's got henchmen running around like headless chickens making more and more wild accusations. But the wilder they get, the more skeptical people become of the Bush campaign. Americans know that an incumbent is supposed to run on their record. The Bush campaign is all about dogging Kerry - which scares the hell out of the Henny Penny folk here, but look where it is getting Bush and getting Kerry.

While the poll numbers look fairly stable, with Kerry a bit on top, the favorability polls are dropping on Bush and rising for Kerry. The same thing for questions about being commander in chief. So you can look at the surface numbers, or you can see that Bush support is softening and Kerry support is solidifying while people become more comfortable with the idea of voting for him.

When you see the Bush attack dogs out, that means that they know something is going wrong. You don't attack when you are confident about your numbers. You do when you see things slipping away, like they are for Bush. So, don't get your undies in a bunch everytime a group of attack dogs are let loose. Kerry is running a very confident, efficient campaign that takes the longview and has slowly, but surely eaten away at those elusive swing voters.

3. Kerry is running a model campaign
and I see he is returning fire today. A good sign--it was time to start fighting back.

4. Well said.
I do believe that Kerry is going to have to run his "very confident, efficient campaign" right up until the last vote is counted. He appears to have some very skilled, professional, dedicated people behind him, and they need to keep working.

From the most recent Kerry Campaign e-mail:

"We knew it was coming: the Bush campaign and several allied right-wing groups are using August to launch a vicious smear attack against John Kerry. They think we're vulnerable this month because while George Bush is still able to raise money for attack ads, Kerry had to stop fundraising at the Democratic convention last week. They're taking this opportunity to go for the jugular.

Every time they have attacked us like this, it has only made us stronger. When they ran dishonest attack ads (like the unbelievable new one on the air right now), thousands of new supporters flocked to our campaign to give us the resources we need to fight back on the airwaves.

Now that the general election has begun, they're hoping things are different. They're going to be sorely disappointed because we are not alone. The Democratic National Committee is well prepared to take on this fight.

You and I know that if we so much as yield an inch to George Bush and the Republicans this month, we'll live to regret it. In fact, we may live to regret it for four long years. Join with me in supporting the Democratic Party today.

Thank you,

Mary Beth Cahill
Campaign Manager"

5. The attack dogs haven't even started
1. Cheney is now using the scare tactic, something to the effect that it would be a horrible mistake if we changed presidents in the middle of a war

2. Giuliani is getting ready to trash Kerry, using "his" city, 9/11 as the backdrop why we need bush

3. Wait tell the pugs convention

4. We will be luckey to get 1 debate, and I doubt the VPs will debate at all. Perhaps we will go to red alert

etc.

The concern I think most people have is that the press for the most part is misrepresenting Kerry. Look what happened on his quote about the Iraq war yesterday, and the response from the Kerry team has been weak at best

Media is giving unquestionable coverage of the swift boat slims, and not allowing enough time for the Kerry side to respond

No, before this is over there will be blood in the streets

I don't blame people for being concerned. We have a corporate media supporting this administration, and lies that go unanswered

14. Rudy needs to be careful...
While 9-11 raised him up in the public eye, 3 years have gone by and alot of NY'rs are remembering what a complete putz he was pre 9-11. And if the Repugs overdo the 9-11 thing at the Convention, I think it will completely backfire on them. Stop and think about the number of ads Shrubya was shown at Ground Zero with his bullhorn. 1. And he took alot of heat for that. The NYPD and FDNY are not happy with Shrubya because they STILL haven't gotten the money they need to upgrade thier equipment.

And, word on the street is, even here in backwoods, bum-fuck, upstate NY, that NYC is going to be loaded with protesters, and I doubt no matter how much FOXNews, CNN, MSNBC, etc., try to filter them out, they will be visible, and audible.

16. agreed
I saw some of the sound bytes from the time of the Dem convention. I was actually shocked. He came across as very ugly, meanspirited. Not at all the Rudy that NY'ers would like to remember from 9/11.

He'd better watch it or this will backfire on him personally, in addition to the republican party.

Cher

p.s. just last night I heard on NPR that NY will be getting all the money shrubco promised. Report said it would go into a couple of large building projects, such as a train station in the Battery, if I recall correctly. At any rate, that alone is a desperation sign--they are scared of what's going to happen in NY and are trying to buy all the good will they can.

9. Spoken like a true optimist...Kerry better kick it into high gear...
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 01:06 AM by Zinfandel
because these fascist can smear like no other, and have the money and the corporate media to do it...the last thing we want is to be scratching our collective heads in November as the greedy, lying republicans are laughing.

Don't forget, they don't plan to leave office if the votes are not there...they plan to steal it no matter what, again, (BBV).

Still, lots of work to be done in the next three month's, can't let up for a second with over confidence...we've got to in it for the long haul...donate, volunteer, write, stay aware, protest, get people involved, and get out the vote.

It'll be a long lying, smearing, distorting three month's from these true fascist.

No joke!

11. The one thing that continues to give me hope is
the turnout for Kerry across this country!

There are tens of thousands of people at these stops. Think of how many that wanted to go but couldn't get off from work etc. That so many people would brave the heat and crowds to hear our guy speak is a sign. I can have hope that the people in this country have woken up to what has been done to us by Chimpy and his thugs. Seeing so many so eager for change is comforting.

12. I would
As far as I can tell he's not scheduled near my area, but should it become possible, you can bet I'll go. I'll take my kids, too.

I have more confidence now than I've had in a long time.

Thanks, shrub. Keep up the great work and continue to fuck yourself.

I think most Americans are able to see how desperate these people are getting.

Kerry/Edwards are the best and will put this country back on track where it belongs. They will not hesitate to do what's best for US and won't forget us either.

Cyn:)

15. What Scares Us Is The Fact That Bush*'s Lame Negative Campaign is Working!
All they are doing is slinging mud, but when you control the media,
and you sling enough mud, some of it is guaranteed to stick because
the media whores never stop talking about it.

Even when people see through it it still works! All those great
speeches at the Convention were off the news as soon as BushCo
cooked up some moldering "intelligence" into a terra alert.
Nobody remembers what anybody said in Boston anymore.

Never before have we faced an opponent with this kind of unlimited
support from the media. It means that the Republican talking points
instantly become the conventional wisdom, being repeated on every
news show, and the Repubs get a pass even though their campaign is
all negative all the time. Any criticism of the pResident, on the
other hand, is "bashing" and is dismissed without any discussion
of the substance of it.

I don't think we're doomed. We have a chance of winning,
but we are not as far ahead as we need to get, if we are
to overcome the enormous advantages this regime enjoys.

18. Conventional Wisdom And Ed Muskie
Kerry may have got naturally bumped off after the convention ended, but the damage was done. His favoribility and military credentials both shot up - which is fantastic news because we have known for awhile now that Bush's support is softening and people were looking for a viable alternative. Kerry gave it to them. Don't mistake the media's groupthink for conventional wisdom.

As for "bashing," I can't prove it, but I think that alot of people think that such talk sounds alot like whining, or Ed Muskie crying about people picking on his wife.

I'm not saying get lazy, but we can't become overly defensive either. Making Kerry look good is just as much an attack on Bush as, well, attacking Bush. In fact, it is more effective.

It would, if Bush* had to do it himself, but the media whores all
do it for him.

17. Here's the problem--when they get desperate. . .
there is no end to the lies and crap or stunts they will pull to ensure their win. This is why we need to have a rapid-response team and why we need to actively combat their lies and mud-flinging ASAP! Does anyone from the Kerry campaign read DU??????
