More lies about Kerry's war record, this time being spread by teens
So I talked with my little brother yesterday while we were watching VH1. He told me a bunch of bs that he had heard from his right wing friend that Kerry's wounds were self inflicted, that he would go in after the action was over with a video camera with an M16 and pretend to shoot up the villege, that his wounds were only scratches. That he spit on soldiers in a helicopter or something like that. My brother was just doing this to get a reaction out of me, he doesnt believe it, and I got the info on Kerry's purple hearts from Brinkley's book. I know who supplied him the "info", his friend who is as right wing as they come, "the homeless are that way because they're lazy", "women ask to get rape when they get dressed up like sluts.", this kid's family and another one is what had me briefly convert to athiesm or agnosicism for a while, but I consider myself a Catholic now but I find their beliefs sickening. So could anyone help me rebuke this, and I can add bookmark this and then open it when I get the internet working at home so I can show my brother the info. Ive considered downloading the pdfs from Kerry's website too. Thanks.

15. hand held 8 mm movie camera tape transferred to video
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 08:22 AM by yellowcanine
There were no personal video cameras in the 1960s let alone the 1930s. There were 8 mm hand held movie cameras in the 60s - doubt if they were available in the 30s. I believe the tape of the Kennedy assassination was shot with such a camera. You can take those old home movie tapes and have them transferred to video tape or DVD. They were black and white, though. Some of the later stuff- 70s and 80s - might have been color, I don't know. I don't know how there could be color movie tapes from the 30s - unless black and white tapes were "colorized" - an expensive process usually only done with feature length movies.

It is possible to have movies from the 30's in color actually, Ive seen pre WWII footage on the history channel in color. I dont know if it was colorized or not.

16. No, they had video cameras in the early '60s
They were big and expensive, though, as well as delicate -- I can't imagine someone lugging one across the Mekong Delta, though it would have been technically possible.

17. Not so. They were V8 movie cameras and they were not that big.
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 08:37 AM by Kerryfan
Or expensive. I was married in 1962 and my husband's sister had one.

Sorry on edit, I didn't mean to say they didn't have bulky video cameras in the the 60s. I don't know. But his camera was a 8mm movie camera and probably not that big. My sister in laws was not that big and did have color film.

2. Dumbest statement ever
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 07:11 AM by Catch22Dem
Since there's like one film of him and none of it has any shooting. None of his combat was caught on film either, neither were any of his wounds.

EDIT: Tell him they used film in personal cameras back then too. That's not video footage. :D

3. This is my brother's friend
by the time I get home from work, I am usually so damned tired. It sounds like Washington Times stuff to me, this family gets that paper, I let my brother know that O'Neil was a Nixon hack and that Corsi is an anti Catholic (this family and my own are Catholic so it may convince him otherwise), anti Muslim, anti semtic, and a homophobe at that too.

7. you got that part right
This family is as right wing as they come. Shame really because their grandfather ran for South Dakota congress as a dem and was JFK's secretary of agriculture for that state. Guns and Abortion and predjudice I guess make you become republican.

9. it makes me sick to think..
.that we can't raise smart, well informed people...they just spew what their parents say..so many 18 year olds around here want to vote for Bush because that is who mom and dad said to vote for...
My mom told a young girl who said she wanted to vote for Bush...that she should research and find out why..because she didn't know why...
so after a breif convo with my mom she said "well maybe I just won't vote because I don't know who is the best one"

so my mom said "if you don't know what or why you are voting for Bush and feel like its best to avoid it then that is okay"

LOL My mom is trying to recruit Bushies...BUT if they don't change their mind and decide not to vote for either than she is happy with that! LOL!...i guess that is one less vote for bush...

This kid is academically smarter than me and his brother who was once a friend of mine is going to JMU, a place I could only dream to go even if I had done better in school.

12. Hey John
I don't know if book smarts has anything to do with it. My older brother went to West Point, is a genius, and retired Army. He loves Bush despite Bush being an anti-intellectual idiot. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that's what racism does to you. He is the biggest racist I ever met.

In 1968 I was asked who I would vote for of the 3 candidates.
I said "Wallace" 'cause I thought Nixon and Humphrey were just really weird names.

21. Recommended for teens, Jon Stewart and The Daily Show
My 17-yr old grandson and his friends have taken to watching the Jon Stewart show and even Tibo(sp) it when they are away. These teens were spouting the same Neocon crap and were getting their info from the Rush Limbaugh and wannabee's and with most young men they play up the macho role of Toby Keith's "a boot up their ass." Most teens are pretty smart and if given good information they are able to discern crap from fact and they reallllly don't like being lied to and used. During his conversations with me I would attempt to give him another point of view and then when he and his friends started watching Jon Stewart and Jon's method of getting the message out with comedy and wit, they started paying attention and his old gran didn't seem so old anymore.
He is now in his senior year and he had a list of books that he had to select one to read during the summer. As with many teens holding jobs, participating in sports, and volunteering, he waited til the last minute to select a book and read it. He finally selected Al Franken's, Liars and the Lying Liars that Tell Them. This book along with the Jon Stewart show has truly awoken my grandson and he is just full of questions now: who is Anne Coulter? Bill O'Reilly verbally attacking the son of a man who perished in the Twin Tower's, etc., etc., etc. He is now giving me a tally of who is wearing Bush/Cheney pins and shirts versus Kerry/Edwards.

Give the teens the information that can help them determine for themselves what is fact and fiction. These are dangerous times and the young people are the ones that will bear the brunt of Bush and thugs actions. Will their be a draft? Will their be jobs for them?
Will college be available for them?
