Republicans Using Race Card to Attack Teresa

Group Runs Anti-Kerry Ads on Black Radio Stations

By Thomas B. Edsall, Washington Post Staff Writer

snip........ and mocking his wife for boasting of her African roots.

The D.C.-based group, People of Color United, has substantial financial backing from J. Patrick Rooney, the former chairman of Golden Rule Insurance Co. and the founder of a new firm, Medical Savings Insurance Co.

Both firms specialize in medical savings accounts, created by Republican-backed 1996 legislation, and health savings accounts, which were created by President Bush (news - web sites)'s 2003 Medicare prescription drug legislation.

One of the radio ads addresses Kerry's failure to vote on a bill to extend unemployment benefits for 13 weeks: "It needed 60 votes to pass. Ninety-nine out of 100 senators voted -- Kerry did not! It lost by one vote! Maybe Kerry thought the more of us who are unemployed and hurting, the more likely we would vote Democrat."

Another ad attacks Teresa Heinz Kerry, who, at the Democratic convention last month cited her birth and upbringing in Mozambique and who has described herself as African American. In the radio commercial, the announcer says: "His wife says she's an African American. snip

1. I imagine a lot of black voters will be so angry at Teresa
for mentioning she is from Africa, that they will vote for Bush.

3.  THE GOP NOT STOP AT ANYTHING TO STAY IN POWER?
the man financing this effort is a man
who is making money from the Bush medicare program. He now owns an insurance company that specializes in the medicare bill that has given companies that the elderly will pay for their "low" prescription drugs.

WILL THE GOP NOT STOP AT ANYTHING TO STAY IN POWER?

7. Hmm...who is more "sista-like":
Teresa Heinz-Kerry:

Speaks Truth to Power (e.g. "shove it")
Speaks her mind
Marched against the oppression of Apartheid

Condi Rice:

Does what her masters tell her to do
Takes the fall for said master's evil doings
Parrots the GOP meme and doesn't think for herself

Gee, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out, does it? Who do YOU think black America would admire more?

11. Well if You and I Agree on Something...
like "the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain", then we can call ourselves "united" also. :bounce:

Just funnin' withcha, but I suspect you are correct. However, there have to be records somewhere...hmmmm....

12. about Rooney
just a little

Conservative millionaire J. Patrick Rooney is on a mission from the Almighty: Bring down crushing and “ungodly” health-care costs. For more than a decade, he has worked to replace traditional insurance with tax-free health savings accounts (HSAS), which people can use to pay for their own medical care. “I'm doing the right thing, and I think the Lord will be pleased about it,” he says.

Using his fortune to open doors in Washington, Rooney has relentlessly preached his gospel. Last year, Congress saw the light: GOP lawmakers inserted a $6.4 billion tax break for HSAs into a Medicare prescription-drug bill. And a recent survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting says 75% of employers are likely to offer the accounts by 2006.

Rooney's new model of health coverage, which has won support from President George W. Bush, replaces traditional insurance with tax-free health savings accounts and high-deductible policies.

The argument: If patients must pay out-of-pocket for, say, the first $1,000 in bills, they will seek more cost-effective care.

That, Rooney maintains, will unleash market forces to hold down costs. Big insurers, including Aetna Inc. and many regional Blue Cross Blue Shield Assn. plans, began rolling out HSAs this year.
