Kerry is really disappointing, unfortunately.
His run to the middle is looking more and more desperate each day. It's as if he sold out us liberals. I know I'm going to catch hell for saying this, but oh well. With every passing week, he makes some sort of new comment that makes him look Republican-lite. Not only did he say that he still would have gone into Iraq (which contradicted what he told Larry King less than a month ago), but now he's also supporting faith-based initiatives. He looks less promising with each passing day. He doesn't want same-sex marriage. He supports the death penalty in terrorist cases. He's now "personally opposed" to abortion. He supported the Patriot Act. He supported No Child Left Behind. Surely you guys can understand why I'm feeling so down about him.

There's just no question that I'm voting for Kerry, and encouraging everyone I know to do the same.

I does upset me when he says things that I don't agree with. But I have to remind myself that, 1) I'm never going to find a candidate who agrees with ME ME ME on every issue, 100% and 2) there's a difference between running for president and being president.

It's all about getting JK in the door at this point. All the rest is Phase 2 of the project.

Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 12:54 PM by dissention
I never said I wasn't voting Kerry, I simply said that his candidacy leaves me a bit cold. I didn't know that all liberals were supposed to worship him. I haven't been around here for very long, excuse me if I shoudn't have started this thread. Anyone is better than Bush, but that still doesn't mean that Kerry is fantastic. I would've preferred Kucinich or Braun, but that's obviously not happening.

The viciousness that's exhibited towards people around here reminds me of the FR sometimes. I swear, people couldn't be any ruder towards others. All inclusive, may ass. The minute someone dares criticize Kerry, insults are hurled at them. Grow up.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/forums/rules.html

Negative attacks are an unavoidable part of any political campaign, and therefore they are permitted against any Democratic presidential candidate. However, once the Democratic party officially nominates its candidate for president, then the time for fighting is over and the negative attacks against candidates must stop. The administrators of this website do not wish for our message board to be used as a platform to attack and tear down the only progressive on the planet with any hope of defeating George W. Bush. Constructive criticism and even outright disappointment with the candidate may be expressed, but partisan negative attacks will not be welcome. If you wish to contribute to the defeat of the Democratic candidate for president, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website. As the election season draws closer, we may expand this rule to include Democratic candidates for other political offices.

we are in the fight of our lives here and by the way - you should have included the fact that you are still voting for Kerry inspite of your really disappointing personal view of Kerry.

If you start a flame bait thread, expect DU'ers to fight back.

Kerry is not the perfect candidate - but he's the only one we've got.

And by the way - Kucinich or Bruan WOULD NEVER HAVE WON, you do know that right?

That doesn't change the fact that I wish one of them had, though. :) I loved the feeling I got when I watched the debates and got to see those two speak. I remember just sitting there and thinking that I'd never seen two politicians in my life with so much integrity, enthusiasm, and positive ideas. The problem was that I couldn't decide which one to vote for in the primary because I loved both of them so much. LOL Hopefully Dennis eventually runs for the senate or something along those lines, and I hope Carol has some position in the Kerry administration eventually.

35. Where's the opposition party?
Of all the really terrible things Bush has done, none is worse than the Iraq war. That means that is where he is most vulnerable, and Kerry could use that to his advantage.

Why does Kerry feel the need to support this insanity? I really wish him well and will work to get him elected, but there are millions of Americans who think the Iraq war was and is a big mistake. So why not tap in on this? I'm baffled.

Also, what about the 50% of people that did not vote in 2000? What incentive is there for these people to vote this time when, at least on foreign policy, Bush and Kerry are in agreement in principle?

I just found it a bit off-putting when people told me to go f*ck myself. I mean, no one has to agree, but hopefully people have a bit more decency than to say things like that. 39. No I can't understand why you feel that way
Primarily because your post is chock full of RW talking points - NOT facts.

"Not only did he say that he still would have gone into Iraq" - Nope, that's not AT ALL what he said. Since there are about 500 posts on this board discussing this, I'm not going to bother giving you the facts - go look 'em up.

"doesn't want same-sex marriage." - His position on same-sex marriage is nuanced. He actually doesn't believe "marriage" should be a government contract. He believes it belongs in the church and that civil unions belong in the govt. Realizing of course that this is never going to happen, he believes that these rights should be determined by each individual state. HIS home state is the only one in the nation that legally reconizes gay marriage. And he WILL NOT allow bigotry to be written into the Constitution.

"He's now "personally opposed" to abortion" - Sorry but, again, he has always been "personally opposed" to abortion. He has always made it clear that his position is that one person's faith and beliefs do not and will not supercede the laws of this country.

You can "dissent" all you want, but make sure you do it with your facts straight.

<snip>
Rising to Bush's bait, Kerry said he would have cast the same Yes vote in Congress that he did on Oct. 11, 2002, to authorize the president to launch a pre-emptive war that began March 19, 2003, even if Kerry had known that Saddam Hussein had no ties with Al Qaeda terrorists, no weapons of mass destruction and posed no real threat to the world.

"I believe it's the right authority for a president to have," Kerry now says. Only he would have used that power more "effectively."

This amounts to a sweeping claim by Kerry that America has carte blanche to make war on even bogus grounds, and in defiance of the United Nations and world opinion, so long as the war is waged effectively.

<snip>

All this is baggage Bush should carry to the polls, alone. But Kerry has just re-endorsed his misguided policy, if not its clumsy delivery.

As a practicing Catholic, I agree with Kerry....but make no mistake, I and Kerry support the right to Choose....there is a difference. I would never control what another wants to do with his or her body or personal choice except prevent suicide.

Christian Fundings don't know the difference; nor do you.

I'm liberal, and your thoughts and sentiments about Kerry and the campaign are not mine.
