MI Poll: Poll: Kerry starting to widen his lead in state
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 12:56 PM by Feanorcurufinwe
It took about a week after the Democratic National Convention, but U.S. Sen. John Kerry picked up the bounce he was looking for in Michigan.

In a poll of 600 Michigan residents taken Aug. 4-10, Kerry, the Democratic nominee for president, is leading President George W. Bush, 49 percent to 42 percent. Independent candidate Ralph Nader has 3 percent support, according to the poll.

Take Nader out of the equation, and Kerry stretches his lead to 51 percent to Bush's 43 percent, according to the poll done by EPIC/MRA of Lansing. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

And there isn't much room for movement, said Ed Sarpolus of EPIC/MRA. Eighty-two percent of the people surveyed said they are firm in their choice for president and won't change their mind. Sixteen percent are somewhat certain of their selection and only 2 percent are truly undecided.

<snip>

In an EPIC/MRA poll taken right after Kerry announced that U.S. Sen. John Edwards was going to be his running mate, the Massachusetts Democrat's lead was 47 percent to Bush's 44 percent.
